If my employer was cursing me out over the phone they'd be asked once politely to calm down. If they continued I'd hang up. If I wanted to be spoken to like a **** I'd work for Gordon Ramsey.

Sounds like a typical private sector job.
This,
Best thing that ever happened in my job was being brought out by a huge US Corporation.

What great employee relations we have here.
I can remember Dolph a long time ago telling me the private sector was like a fairy tale example of how the world should be.
I'm glad I don't have to put up with such nonsense abuse as described in here!
Bloody hell, things must have been bad. US corporations are notorious for the way they treat staff.
I am fuming and need to rant on the internets!
I have just had my MD rip me to shreds for 10 minutes on the phone, ****** and blinding because a member of staff resigned this morning and I did not ring the GM up to tell him.
This is despite the fact they are currently sat together in the same vehicle and I spoke to the MD on the phone after she had resigned and told him.
Apparantly I have "no respect for the GM" and I should have rung him and told him. The GM is "the best thing that has every happened to the company and it's about time everybody gave him the respect he deserves and everybody had best buck their ideas up and start doing that". My excuse that I had told my MD and the GM was sat next to him didn't wash as I should have rung the GM while the member of staff was still there and not waited until they had left.
Unfortunately she did not want to speak to the GM as he was the reason she was leaving.
I just can't win in my job sometimes........
They're not that bad, I worked for Bell Labs and they were great and Walmart/Asda are in the top 10 best UK companies to work for.
Anyway, does the OP have a HR department at work?
OK, am I getting this right......the MD and GM are sitting together in a car and the MD is saying all that stuff about the GM while he's sat next to him?

I'm guessing the MD & GM are close friends or something? Would explain why the MD blindly supports him when a clear picture is emerging of his toxicity in the workplace - people shouldn't have to be told somebody deserves respect if their actions and behaviour warrant it.
Upon their return you should stand and bang.
