My boss is a **** work rant

On a more serious note, the moment he swears at another member of staff, it's gross misconduct. I'm shocked you think you can entertain it. Thought about joining a union?

If my employer was cursing me out over the phone they'd be asked once politely to calm down. If they continued I'd hang up. If I wanted to be spoken to like a **** I'd work for Gordon Ramsey.

I had this and this is how I reacted, had horrendous relationship with my manager ever since. Though whilst we clearly now hate each other and have no time for eachother we both certainly know where the line is drawn.

I have the same relationship with our MD, unfortunately putting your head above the parapet nowadays isn't a smart idea so I end up just accepting all the **** he gives me.

I'm guessing the MD & GM are close friends or something? Would explain why the MD blindly supports him when a clear picture is emerging of his toxicity in the workplace - people shouldn't have to be told somebody deserves respect if their actions and behaviour warrant it.

Upon their return you should stand and bang.

Respect goes both ways. Someone who shouts, swears and is generally an ignorant **** deserves no respect and seems this is the issue.

What great employee relations we have here.

I can remember Dolph a long time ago telling me the private sector was like a fairy tale example of how the world should be.

I'm glad I don't have to put up with such nonsense abuse as described in here!

We're glad we couldn't be accused of being paid for by the private sector's dollar to mock them from atop a high horse.

I am fuming and need to rant on the internets!

I have just had my MD rip me to shreds for 10 minutes on the phone, ****** and blinding because a member of staff resigned this morning and I did not ring the GM up to tell him.

This is despite the fact they are currently sat together in the same vehicle and I spoke to the MD on the phone after she had resigned and told him.

Apparantly I have "no respect for the GM" and I should have rung him and told him. The GM is "the best thing that has every happened to the company and it's about time everybody gave him the respect he deserves and everybody had best buck their ideas up and start doing that". My excuse that I had told my MD and the GM was sat next to him didn't wash as I should have rung the GM while the member of staff was still there and not waited until they had left.

Unfortunately she did not want to speak to the GM as he was the reason she was leaving.:D

I just can't win in my job sometimes........

OK, am I getting this right......the MD and GM are sitting together in a car and the MD is saying all that stuff about the GM while he's sat next to him?

If that's the case, you should have told him to calm down and remove his nose from the GM's anal passage so you could explain the situation!

My MD routinely swears at me and I swear back at him. One of the perks of working for family I suppose. :D

They're not that bad, I worked for Bell Labs and they were great and Walmart/Asda are in the top 10 best UK companies to work for.

I'm 100% certain all of the guys filling the shelves at night and earning £11,000 a year, wholeheartedly agree with that :D

Being bought out by an American company hasn't gone down too well here!

Anyway, does the OP have a HR department at work?

I suspect he will have.

And like every other HR department I have ever encountered, they are staffed by the least caring, most feckless, lazy, useless and incompetent people to be found in the entire company, who's sole purpose is finding additional reasons to justify their own existence.

Just my 2p.

Good luck finding a new job!

Report him to someone higher. You can't expect to deal with a "Managing Director" ****** and jeffing over the phone. As someone said, that is mis-conduct, probably not gross but still.

Personally, I would hurt him, but no physically. Does he have a family?

Yes. Sat next to him and on hands free.

Me. I am the payroll and HR department and deal with all the staff issues/greivances/disciplinaries/appeals etc.....:(

Yep. They weren't before the GM started working here but the GM now even lives with the MD and share a house together.....
