£500-600 budget - What to do?

A family member is coming into a little bit of money soon, and owes me about £600, which I plan to spend on a new PC. The PC will primarily be for gaming.

I was planning on getting the "Titan Predator" pre-built system from OC, but it's apparently not being sold any longer, so I've set my eyes on the "Titan Krypt" with W7 Home and the GTX 460.

Basically, I'm just wondering if anyone can suggest an alternative pre-built PC, maybe a 'configure your own' or perhaps just a list of parts so that I can then build it myself (It would be my first time, but it could be fun). My main aims for the PC are to be able to reliably and smoothly run most games on the higher tier of settings. I'm not asking for a groundbreaking build, but just something that will at least last me for a few years and enable me to actually enjoy games properly.

Note: I've just noticed that the "Titan Krypt" is on offer at the moment, which would mean I don't go over budget. So try to keep it under £600, which is what I would be spending if this money comes through this week.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: It doesn't need to include a monitor, mouse, or keyboard. Those are all covered.
Edit2: I do need to also get W7, as I'm currently using a cracked version (Shh). I COULD continue to use it on my new PC, but I thought I might aswell go legit.

Thats everything you need to build a pc apart from a monitor/speakers/keyboard and mouse.

Building yourself means you get so much better components for your money.

Wow, that was extremely quick. I really appreciate it.

The only real reason I was going for a pre-built system was because I had no idea of what components to choose, so thank you :)

I just pray that this money comes through soon, and I can get started on my first build. Again, thanks.

Did u play with Lego when u was a kiddie?, if so you can build a computer, that's how easy it is.. ;).
If you have problems building it get stuck always post here some1 will help you.

Where do u live?, if local to me I'm more then happy to help u build your pc.

My lego houses were there things legends were were of! :p

Currently residing in Milton Keynes. Thanks for the offer of help, but I've already recruited a cousin of mine to pop round in case I get into any difficulty building it :)

There are a few online guides, and one thread here as well that should help you out. There maybe a couple of naggling bits, but overall it's 1/2 a day work, a day maybe if you have no experience and you take your time.

Not a fan of the CM PSU. I'd look at the BeQuiet L7 530W and the xigmatek Asgard as an alternative.

Sym, I just built the PC I am using right now, and it was my first time, using (mostly) parts that stulid suggested. Easier than I thought and now laughing all the way to the bank with the money i saved not buying a premade and happy in the knowledge that I know all the components are top notch.
Apart from the case, the Asgard I got is pretty horrible. Roomy though.

I watched this, gave me every bit of confidence to the thought of building my first computer.

Thanks for the video link :) I'll give it a watch later on :)

Let's hope my first build goes just as smoothly ;) I'm just hoping this money comes through soon so I can make the most of the deals popping up on some of the suggested items. I could save myself even more money! :D

Good luck with your first build, it's never as hard as you may think. :)

I hope you're right (I'll be starting my first build soon, when Z68 surfaces).

Apart from adding a cooler/thermal compound (which is fairly critical, and easy to bodge) the actual "build" should be straightforward. However, this assumes you have the right kit to build - you could start out with an mATX case, an Intel E-ATX mobo, AMD CPU and SODIMM memory...

I know 99.9% of members on this forum wouldn't make elementary mistakes like that, but for a first build/n00b it can be quite daunting - is this any good?, is that compatible with it?, will this fit in that case?, do I need a 1200W PSU?...

Thankfully there are many seriously clued-up and helpful people here, willing to offer advice, suggestions, warnings, tips and tricks.

And then there's the legend that is stulid - if you need a spec, he's the man. This guy should have his own section here, if not his own forum!

Since the offer on the 5850 ended, and then the price got increased by £5 after that, it now costs the same as the 6970. Is it worth going for that instead?
