Bathroom not delivered when they said, any recourse?

So I ordered a bathroom suite from Sainsbury's (they had it on offer) and said it would be delivered within 7-10 days.

Last Friday I got a call from the courier company to tell me it would be delivered between 8-6 on the following Wednesday (yesterday). I asked them for a more specific delivery time (even morning or afternoon) but all they would say was between 8-6. I then asked what would happen if I wasn't there to receive; it would be returned to the depot and I could arrange another delivery date, but they don't deliver on weekends.

This basically left me no choice but to take the Wednesday off work as leave and yes you guessed it, they didn't show up. I was in and awake between 6-20 feet from the door all day and nadda.

I'm feeling pretty miffed at the courier company because I've wasted a day off work for nothing, and now I'm going to have to take another one off to try again.

Sainsbury's to be fair have offered me £10 e-voucher, but I find this actually quite insulting, £10 doesn't exactly equate to what will be two whole days off work being wasted imo.

Do you guys think I have any recourse against Sainsburys or more likely the courier company?

Thanks

You will get no compensation from the carrier as you do not have a contract with them. You are more likely to get something back from Sainsbury.

ten pound voucher LOL

that is great!

You could probably pursue it further but i wouldn't expect an amazing financial outcome, possibly a better gesture of goodwill ? (£20 voucher!)

Your agreement is with Sainsburys, so any complaint should be aimed there.

There isn't sadly much you can do about late delivery - unless you have expressly agreed that the time for delivery was of the 'essence' then as you have a consumer contract there has only been a breach a warranty and since the value of the goods won't have changed there isn't anything you could ask (claim against) them for.

Trying to construct a legal argument more complicated than that is likely to be a waste of time, money and effort.

Instead, I would write a dissatisfied letter to Sainsburys explaining your loss and see what they come back with.

You got paid for the day off from work? I would push for £20 quid but no more. If you lost wages then that would be different

They dont show = cancel the entire order. i assume its outside 10 days now? Have you paid them yet? Get your money back pronto.

Courier companies really need to improve their customer service, must be one of the most useless industries in this country

Sainsburys bathrooms? lol Or was it from HomeBase (who are owned by sainsbury's IIRC).

A friend of mine had a bad experience with B&Q recently when they failed to deliver his bath. He had a moan on Twitter, and somebody from CS contacted him and offered him an £80 voucher.

Yeah I got paid for the time off work but that's not really the point, I've lost a day off work for nothing; only get so many a year and it's such a pain that they wasted one without even an apology.
