Since graduating in Summer 2009 (!) (Exeter, BSc Physics), I've spent much of the past 22 months chasing that elusive first step on the career ladder in Science/Engineering. I'm pleased to say that hundreds of applications and many long months working in retail later, I've been offered the job of Production Engineer at a very successful international precision manufacturing firm, and can choose a start date within the next 30 days.

Just wanted to share the good news really, and to show that despite the economic slump we're still in, the fact that I am a Graduate and not an experienced engineer and that I "only" got a 2:2, I've managed to land what looks to be a great job at a fantastic company. The package is very attractive with excellent benefits.

Just goes to show that however bleak the outlook may be for those of you that are job seeking, don't give up, keep thinking of new and improved ways to sell yourself and stay optimistic. If you persist for long enough in the right way, you will be successful.

:)

2:2 is plenty, well it is if you went to a good uni :)

Unfortunately for many graduates they find that a large proportion of graduate roles require a 2.1. This makes life very difficult for those who achieved 58% and missed out on a 2.1 because of a massive fail in one module like my friend did.

Congrats to the OP :)

It might be different at my uni, but when they calculate your degree classification they do it by dropping your lowest scoring module, and using the remaining modules to work out the weighted total, and in turn the degree classification.
