Or if you can find one a 6950 2GB that can be flashed. Bit like gold dust these days tho.
I game at 1900 x 1200
A 120gb SSD will be about right for me. In addition to the OS I aim to put my steam folder on it but only have the currently active game downloaded to conserve space. i.e. will delete the local content of other games. I can always re-load/download a different one after playing/finishing current game. This should then leave enough space for a few other non steam games to be loaded on the SSD.
Only reason for using the SSD for the steam folder is I'm guessing game-saves and next-section-of-map loads will be a bit quicker. Not 100% sure about this though.
Going off the idea of a 590 and liking the 570 now (thx for the heads-up on reliability) and looking at OCUK putting together a new rig for me on the 'configure yourself' section based on an i5 + 570 + slow SSD, sandybridge system for around £1500. A bit more than the £1200 mentioned but I figure what the heck, may as well get a new case + more powerful PSU + Win 7 & 2tb storage and let the experts put it all together for me
Also the door on my current case has snapped off and after 2 years it's starting to make funny noises and needs to be thumped sometimes.
The custom build tool adds in building charges automatically to it but if you just buy the individual parts yourself and make it yourself, you can save a fortune.

Edit: forgot to say I changed the gcard for a gainward 580gtx due to stock issues with the 570 being too late for my intended build schedule lol
If your rig is struggling with titles at the settings you prefer to play at, and you can afford it, then option (d) would be my choice, but with a different nVidia card than the 590. If you are tight for cash then just add another 5850, option (c).

What about SSD and Crossfire? And then save your monies for a CPU/Mobo upgrade when Ivy Bridge is released?

I have to ask, but where would you get a GTX580 for £290? The cheapest model on OCuk is almost £350!
The cheapest options is of course another 5850 for cf, as two of those will charge through most things easily, often outpacing the GTX580. However, Vram may become an issue over the coming months as more games are coming out that use more than 1gb of Vram, and of course the 5850 only has 1gb. I'd suggest getting maybe a Gigabyte GTX480. You get GTX580 performance for £230 (overclocks like a beast).
Just, for the love of god, avoid the GTX590! Until there is solid evidence that Nvidia have revised it so it doesn't kill itself (instead of throttling back) I would avoid it like the plague. If you want massive performance with money being no object and don't mind two GPUs, get two 6950s. You get 6990 performance for a hundred quid less.
for that budget you could get this insted
preoverclocked and with 120gb ssd and 2x2gb 6950's which should unlock to 6970's if iam right (any one feel free to correct me on this?) these scale better than the 5xx series and has more vram so more future proof
so a lot more bang for buck sace is just a as a guide line price but its a good case for the price

I don't see why ANYONE would go for a 590, it's EPIC FAIL, and now is in the process of being fixed.
