h60/h70 or noctua nh-d14?

what do you guys think of the h60? i know im being super fussy but so many reviews mention the h70 is a bit of a pain to fit :s

Liquid nitrogen is only really used in extreme overclocking and for short periods of time. It has a use there at least, not an alternative to air or watercooling in my eyes, its for a totally different use.

I haven't used the H60, so I'll bow out at this point, but I will say that all the coolers mentioned are generally very good, and you shouldn't be disappointed with whichever one you choose.

thanks mate for all your advice will keep reading reviews and see a few more videos and will pick one of the three then ;)

does anyone know what the thermal compound is like on the h70 as it comes stock? Is it better to use aftermarket? if so which one?

I think the only all-in-one watercooler that is supposed to give results anywhere near as good as the d14 is the Antec Khuler 620.

I have just fitted an H70 to my new setup, (I7 2600k, Asus P8Z68), and I am impressed. Runs cool using the already applied paste, (apparantly gets better after a few days). My only minor gripe is the fans are only 3 pin so no auto speed, but they give you a couple of extension leads with a resister in to reduce speed/noise. I can hear the fans so I will play around today using the resistors, as there seems plenty of cooling spare. I ran it up to 4.5ghz and running OCCT it sat around 56C after 30 minutes. 25 at idle, amazing.

which tool reported the 25? Gigabyte auto tune (HW Monitior??) or whatever it's called reports a temp of 25-26 for me idle, but if I use real temp/coretemp etc, I get a higher temp in each core (I ranged from a low of 26-34)

I had a similar choice a few months ago, and I went for the Noctua. It's good, but it's hardly Jesus incarnate like people make out.

I'm now waiting for the Antec H2O 920 to arrive.

yeh :/ well after lots of thought it looks like i will be going with the h70 mainly for how it will look in my case and space saving n stuff

The H70 uses pre-applied shin-estu paste, which is good. However, if you screw up the first mount you'll need to replace it.

Thanks for the info. I do have AS5 but I did expect I would need to refit it so went with the pre applied paste to save the bother, but it all went fine so I will stay as is for the time being, seems OK.
The tool I used was in fact the Asus own monitor to check temp, seems top agree with the bios readings. In the past I have tried various utils for checking temps and have never got 2 to agree. As it was, I checked the feel of the pump and radiator, and even at full load they both felt OK. I did try the H70 with one fan and one end bolted to the rear of the case to see if the heat sink effect would do away with the need for the extra fan. Seemed fine, but I am now running with both fans with the speed limiter cables fitted, and at 4.4ghz have not gone past 57 running OCCT.
Anyone suggest a good reliable temp guage tool to compare?

I used gigabytes equivalent and it shows 52 after 2.5 hours prime .
Real temp has max 58 - 63 - 67 - 61 but that was after 5 min.
Went down to around 53 - 60 - 62 - 56 after 2.5 hours tho.
Guess thermal paste worked better after a bit

I just bought a Silver Arrow, then saw the H50 on offer :-(
However, I comforted myself by reminding myself that there's a limited amount that can go wrong with the Silver Arrow (at least in theory). With the H50/H60/H70 you have to worry about leaks, the pump failing and maybe evaporation (is that likely in the closed loops?)
There's also the chance that the pump will be noisy.

The arguments for the Silver Arrow can also be applied to the Noctua. Of course the size is what will make fitting the D14/Silver Arrow an issue.

I've also just realised that technically I have enough left over water cooling parts from my WC'd PC to do a small CPU only loop. You can probably buy a kit similar to this for a little over £100.

The Silver arrow is a great cooler, don't worry about the H50 being on offer as it beats it for performance. I can't think of any CPU that couldn't be tamed by it! The H50, however, may struggle in certain cases with an i7 at 4GHz or more.
