perfect holiday destination

New Zealand
Cuba
Dominican
Australia
Antigua
America, especially California and Carolina

Yeah I hate to travel!

Hoping to have a trip touring more of America and also get out to the Maldives in the next couple of years. If I had the cash, I'd be back to see more places in the Caribbean too! Love it there.

Maldives is hugely overrated- sure it's nice but everything is very poor value for money and the culture is near non-existent. Unless you have LOADS to spend, the food in the hotels and restaurants is pretty meh. Also being on the beach all day is boring as hell. (And I like beaches BTW, but there is nothing to do!). It's about 11 hrs from London (Sri Lankan Air is the cheapest direct service, but BA also go from Gatwick, or Emirates via Dubai). Then you need to add on seaplane/ boat to the resort island. Like I said, much better places to go IMO though.

Dominican republic is a good shout though.

Brazil is good but a bit expensive, amazing scenery beaches, food, lovely people though.
SE Asia, Thailand, etc good, but getting very touristy now... It's like Spain or Greece except full of middle- class 'Gap Yuh' students in my experience.

I'm considering our honeymoon destination and Maldives was fancied by the Missus. Where else would you recommend that is similar? We fancy a water bungalow

If you want a bit more culture and stuff, I strongly recommend doing the following:

1) Book a few days in Fernando de Noronha Guardian Article Different to the Maldives, but just as much as a 'paradise island'

Then do one ore more for the following (Depending on budget and tastes)

2) Travel to Bouzios, Natal, Olida, Rio, or, Santa Catarina.

I enjoy any trip to Brazil FAR more than The Maldives- Cheaper, loads more to do, much better food, much more culture.

Just came back from Kuramathi in the Maldives after someone on this forum recommended it a few months ago. I'd go back in a heartbeat, place is amazing.

is brazil safe ?

As long as you're not an idiot. Been 3 times now and nothing has ever come close to happening to me.

The south is totally safe- I walked around all day with my DSLR. In other places I walked around with it no problem- Olina, Rio, etc.

Recife, Sao Paulo, etc are different but I wouldn't suggest going there anyway!
