Hi everybody,

I am looking to replace my Peugeot 307 with something a bit bigger and nicer.

Milage wise I do 40 miles a day for my total commute to work, generally A roads and some stop start traffic. Also over the year I do another 5000 personal miles, damn road trips

So about 15-16k miles a year. Have a budget up to £13,000

I'd like to get a car that is Mondeo size. I'd like the car to be more focused on comfort than performance. Equipment wise it'd need leather seats, iPod connection, climate control and cruise control. They are the only ones that are essential.

I have been looking at Mondeo's, and while it seems like an awesome car the dash board is awful. Getting one with Navigation sorts that out though,

So what else is there that I can get? The Volvo S80 (which I love) will probably have higher running costs, don't know much about the Accord, or the Mazda6.

Any help would be much appreciated!

£13k would be a nice mk4 titanium x, maybe x sport. I have seen the 2.5 versions for £11k at dealers, although I know you said you were not bothered about performance.

Sorry but why on earth do you want to lay down 13 grand on a generic runaround car?

This makes no sense at all, half this budget (or even a quarter!) would get you the same thing - a generic reliable runaround. Theres wanting a nicer car then there is just wasting money on disposable rubbish.

This.

£8k on a Mondeo would probably still get you a Mk4.

£16k is the sort of money where you can start looking at better more premium (not faster) stuff if you want.

Save yourself a bucket and get a Mk4 Mondeo for half your budget.

He's right, id be spending whatever was needed for a new shape Mondeo, 7k.

You are right, but its just getting on in a spec that I am happy with thats the problem.
Like the one linked below...

I cannot stand the dash, so I'd need to get one with nav instead as this makes the dash a lot nicer.

Its a work horse every day car do you really want to waste thousands on a particular spec?

Surely the more you use a car the more important spec is, if I'm going to use a car every day for all sorts, or as a workhorse, it needs to have the spec I want so its a nice place to be?

It does but hes talking about a Mondeo and not liking the dashboard without nav, well buy a different car you do like the dash in then, its not worth spending thousands to get the right mondeo.

Yeah, thats why I posted to see if there are any other cars that I may have forgotten.
This isn't only about the Mondeo

BMW's are not what i meant, DM and Peerzy get it.

Get the Mondeo or bread and butter car of that ilk, as it will be cheap to run and reliable, and be good on the petrol. But for gods sake dont lay out 13 grand for the sake of "spec" in a mondeo.

Its like buying a high end quartz watch, whats the point.

that was sort of my point ;)

you can spend a lot less and still get a decent car, its just what you want. personallyi think you can get all the car you need for £8K

I will have to keep looking and trying to find one with a decent spec.

Glad you weren't serious about the BMW thing, the running costs would be a lot higher than the Mondeo!
