In the red corner we have the

AMD Phenom II 955 BE overclocked @ 3.8ghz

In the blue corner we have the

Intel Core i5 2400 @ 3.10ghz

Simple question, is one CPU significantly better for gaming than the other or are they evenly matched ?

No point mentioning other CPUs etc, these are the two i have infront of me and im building PC for mate and need to know which one will give better performance for gaming.

Thanks in advance

Ok so the I5 will offer a considerable performance increase at its stock speed even though the phenom is OC'd to 3.8 ?

Thats what post number 5 shows.

the 975BE is 3.6GHZ, an extra 200mhz wont help make up the deficit.

good good, guess i need to flog this phenom 2 then... any takers ?

If you already have a Phenom II X4 then TBH it is still going to be fine for almost every game.

There are plenty of us who still own Core2 quads.

Anyway it is nice to see the OP comparing a CPU which can be had for £90 at almost all retailers to one which is £140 to £150 at most retailers.

But he has both CPU's in his possession, so the comparison is perfectly justified.

dont flog it lol still a perfectly good chip for day to day, it's only really beaten by intel in benchmarks, for day to day and gaming use you wont notice any difference ;)

It seems weird that you would spend £230+ on a pair of CPUs before doing any research first.

Perhaps he has them lying around from previous pc's, I got a few random cpus lying around that many people would call decent, when to me they aint anymore.
