Not bad if you have a drink before and do something after, at least gives you something to talk about.

Cinema is a rubbish place for initial dates. On a first date you want to make your awesomeness the focus of attention, not a film. On later dates, you don't want to pay for her attention to be elsewhere when it's time for intimate contact.
Besides which, who the **** even goes to the cinema these days? Ever heard of torrents?
A really nice restaurant would fit the bill for me. The last time I took someone out on a date, we hit Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons.
Oh God, and it was quite a long time ago.
For a first date you would take someone you don't know to a really nice restaurant?
Personally I'd go to a cafe for an hour or so and get to know them before making silly plans.

Take her go-karting, if that doesnt work, clothesline her into the back of a van with blacked out windows.
dont go cinema, its a terrible date at any stage until your ready for some heavy petting (although most cinemas now have night vision )
as others have saidd, if the weathers good go for a stroll somewhere nice, a beach, waterside etc, talk and have fun, then follow up with a nice meal somewhere and if things are going well, take her to a bar to finish off wiht some drinks.
keep to places that are busy and public, where there are lots of noises and you can both be relaxed knowing that there are things around you to talk about if your hitting some awkward silences.
