Hi guys,

My mate has a GTX 280 and an Nvidia FX card.

He wants to run his 3 monitors using the 2 cards. Obviously he doesnt want SLI but can he do this and how?

He currently has the GTX 280 running 2 monitors.

Just make sure his board has enough expansion slots and the PSU can power it all. As easyrider said, run the third monitor off the FX card.

PSU is the biggest thing to be careful of, especially if he plans on pushing 3D games through them.

Also might be worth checking temps, running duel monitors on one card can increase the temps.

yeh we have done all that. The problem is in Windows 7 Device manager we can see both FX5500 and GTX 280 but only one can be enabled. Either the 1 monitor or the two monitors. It can't seem to do both at the same time. When you click on the FX5500 in device manager it has a yellow exclamation mark next to it and says the device has been stopped (code 43).

We tried all sorts last night but had no joy... Any ideas?

It's actually my PC i still havent got anywhere!!

IS there like a setting mayeb like multi gfx or anything??

I have a GTX 280 and an Nvidia FX5500 card. The 280 is pci express the FX is PCI

I want to run all 3 monitors using the 2 cards. Obviously I doesnt want SLI but can I do this and how?

I am currently has the GTX 280 running 2 monitors.

not bothered about performance yet..... just using the 3rd monitor as a tool dump system.

I have downloaded Rivatune and it can see both cards but how do i use this to utilise both cards to display on all 3 screens. All screens are here and waiting lol.

I know SLI will improve performance and work straight away but right now i cant sli because my case is to small and i dont have 200 quid for another card and case lol...

I have seen all over that pci and pci-e cards together do work, that it be settings in the bios or some software like rivatuner, but no one knows how lol or explained them selves!!

There is a picture at the bottom with everything i have right now.

Thanks for looking peeps :)

Ah so you have an X58 board.

When you click on the FX5500 in device manager it has a yellow exclamation mark next to it and says the device has been stopped (code 43).

I would run the FX card by itself, and run Furmark on it. Usually it should be easy as plugging in the card, then installing drivers and boom you're ready to go, but it's strange that the two cards don't want to work together.
