Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

Lots of people tho dont understand what an ETA is, im past caring now, i know it will come back, and every thing will return to normall. sony will have learnt from this and hopefully stop it from happening agin.

this may bankrupt them, if enough people jump ship, enough bad press, enough downtime, enough developers lose confidence, etc. could affect sales so much that they pull out after a hard struggle.

this is a huge blow now, day by day, they are losing more and more customers. the more customers they lose, the more developers they will lose, nobody wants to make less money by making games for ps3, when they can make more by selling to a more popular console.

what it it takes another month to fix? or another 2 months? given no ETA, we can speculate all you want but nobody knows for sure.

what if they get hacked again within weeks of going up? i reckon most people would sell their console.

this is potentially a very dangerous time for sony. if it isnt fixed soon, i expect to see huge losses in their accounts.

I would all but guarantee that that will happen. It will just be too inviting a target, and while they will have re-coded it from the ground up and all the rest of it, you shouldn't underestimate the leet skillz of hordes of bored losers.

Although what worries me is that they might pick on Live after this, just to show that no one is safe...

i think microsoft will be looking at what has happened to psn and be doing their own security updates no doubt, they would be stupid not to, if they arent, then whoever is in charge should be shot at dawn.

This isn't going to bankrupt them. It's not good for business but I don't think it is drama queen time just yet.

They have already given Devs access so it won't be much longer before it comes back online. Within two weeks...:p

ps3 is 1 of their strongest products and has gotten them out of the red last year and into the black, if sales do fall and greatly, it could potentially ruin them. new psp has failed, they only have their tv's and pc's to rely on if ps3 takes a hit, and who honestly owns a sony tv or laptop these days? only snobs who know nothing about technology buy sony tv's these days.

i suspect developer access is a part of testing, if holes are found by developers, it could still be a long wait.

i wish it was up some time this coming week, its been too long.

Doesn't seem that bad from the article. People are just overacting because they are a big gaming company and a small amount of their customers are whining little drama queens who are used to getting their own way from mummy and daddy.

I can't wait for them to all go off to the xbox to be honest. They will be very sadly missed from the community.

im pretty sure sony arent that financially strong at the moment

thats 2009, huge losses, in 2010 they had huge losses in the first 6 months but the last 6 months saved them. in 2011 they have had a good first 6 months i would suspect regardless of what happens this month and next, but their last 6 months could be bad.

lots of pre-owned ps3's flooding the market, i have seen 2 retailers already drop its brand new ps3 prices. sales must be declining.

Personally I have not seen any flooding of pre-owned ps3's hitting the market since this outage.

The only talk of people selling their consoles are from random websites where most are kids complaining. Even most of them will stick with sony, even after all this.

the ps3 had a very large part in putting them in the red in the first place. its no coincidence that sony started posting profits once they actually started making money on the ps3 hardware.

The PS3 was massively responsible for helping sony go into the red, but now it's helping keep them in the black. I can't see sony going bamkrupt from this, there shares have dropped but not as much as some people thought they would. As for sony tvs only being bought by snobs thats not true. A lot of sony tvs are bought because they are the better tv in their price range, I've got a sony TV and it was well better that LG, Phillips, Pioneer. My mates all wish they bought the tv i've got. Packed full of features, 40" 1080p and only £475. The other tvs at this price range weren't a patch on the sony. Different people will buy different brands depending on budget.

But back to PSN, I really hope it's on before endo of march, but if not I'll just have to continue doing what i've done for last few weeks, thats go outside, enjoy the weather, spend time with friends and not obsess about not being able to play online. Sure when it's back i'll have a good 12 hour gaming session, but thats just cos i've got mates on there I only see once a month and we have a laugh together.

According to wiki there;s around 50m ps3 units in the world. If developers decide not to develop for it due to 10% of people getting rid than that would be highly unlikely. The PS3 market is still a big market, even with people saying there going over to the other side. They'd need 60-70% of owners to leave to make it not worthwhile.

I think Sony have had pretty lack lustre performance for a while now, even before the PS3, just look at their shares.

This outage has just been another disaster, after the shocking start to the PS3's life, the shortage of exclusives, the removal of features (OtherOS, PS2 compatibility, Half the USB slots) and even before the PS3 they had the root-kit thing and there was the exploding laptop batteries scandal.. I'll be surprised if there aren't big changes at the top, there have already been rumours in the press and rumours reflect a lack of confidence somewhere, be it in the company, the press or the public, something's got to give. This could be the shake up Sony need to actually be what they can be, and get their act together.

They wont go bust, at worst they'll get bought up, but remember they do more than TVs, computers and PS3s, they do music, film, phones, financial services, DAPs, storage media (including Blu-Ray, which will be the only home movie media as HDDVD is dead), cameras and semiconductors, being in the top 20 for sc sales.

But it's still not up :(
