Need a fish Doctor stat!

had to give a sample of water to the pet shop man before I got my next two and he said it was ok.

But about the stuff in bottles, im going to have to disagree with you there, seeing as a majority of my Biology degree is microbiology.

Google endospores and have a read

Well the hard facts are it doesnt work. Or should I say more specifically it doesnt do what it says it does - i.e "Cycle" your tank.

I challenge anyone to perform an instant cycle using this stuff in bottles (i.e you can use the stuff, populate your filter media and put fish in straight away with 0,0 ammonia and nitrite readings every 12 hrs). Fact is it doesnt work.

What happens, is it "kick starts" a cycle, however you can do this just by adding fish anyway (a fish-in cycle), or by using household ammonia, or even fish food (fish-out or fishless cycle) to start the culture.

So yes, it will start a cycle off, but it doesnt do what it is meant to do i.e cycle the tank (making it pretty pointless).

Biohazard im not sure what your saying?

If you have airstones and bubbles in your tank and your fish needs them, you'll need to put some air/bubbles in your little tank for the guy your trying to save...

I normally stick a small box tank ontop of my cannopy lid of the main tank, and take an airstone out of my main tank and put it in the little box.

Tada, a mini stank.

Fish dont need airstones / bubbles. These are only really for decorative purposes or where there is insufficient water agitation for oxygen transfer, which shouldn't be the case if you direct your filter outlet towards the top of the tank anyway. That said I have one just because they look nice, but it has nothing to do with the welfare of the fish.

That's why I've put the airstone in the small change over tank, it has no filter.

Most people only have one filter.

Cook and shell some peas, then feed them half at a time. It'll make them poop, and release the pressure of the swim bladder. Done it before :)

just to finish off the thread.

Poor little thing died after nearly 2 weeks. I should have euthanised it tbh

I can only put it down to the fact that she ate a semi rotten snail that had died, which gave her a bad infection.

Rip fish
