Anyone know how long dell guarantee repairs?

One of my friends, had a dell laptop where the motherboard died, 10 months back. Now 4 months ago the warranty expired, and wondered if she had a case and it was worth going back to them?

I said i would dig around, but not seeing much on google, just wondered if anyone had any experience?

my desktop had a 12 month warranty
my laptop had a 3 month warranty

both from dell

(this was a couple of years ago)

I've been using my 3 year warranty from Dell for my laptop, and it's been a godsend.

It's worth a try with Dell, but realistically there's very little chance they'll do anything now the warranty's expired. Also bear in mind, they will not give you a new laptop, no matter how b0rked the old one is. Even if they do fix it, they'll gut it, replace the motherboard with a refurbed part, and get it working. No matter if it works out more expensive or not.

In general they wont do anything once the warranty is expired. It's in about the right age range to be covered by the 12 month limited extension to Dell laptops with NVIDA graphics chips (8xxx m).

yeah it is the XPS M1530... it has already had the mobo replaced once 10 months back

i'd get onto them SHARPISH becuase i have a feeling repairs have a 12 month warranty

The last time I heard, if you bought a laptop, and have the motherboard replaced after 10 months, your warranty will still expire 12 months after you have bought the laptop, even though you had the MB replaced.

This is correct. You can have a motherboard replaced a day before the warranty expires, and if it dies 2 days later then it's out of warranty and wont get fixed. That being said, the XPS 1330/1530 laptops have a serious defect with the GPU and have a year extended on their support contract for issues with the GPU. We had a whole bunch of 1330's at work and their was a high failure rate on them, and Dell came in about 8 times to do motherboard swaps.

I dont know what the symptoms are like on the 1530, but on the 1330 when the GPU failed you would see vertical rainbow stripes on the screen.

To be fair to Dell, they would have a technician at either the company, the employees home or in one case a hotel in Chicago the next working day.
