Even computers need a break sometime. I bet they do have some downtime but not any great amount apart from obvious manual refilling which would be in normal trading hours?

Ive seen a windows blue screen on a few ATM over the years, they definitly go down for various reasons but not regularly at any scheduled time so far as I know.

Programming for ATM will be done via black box which means nobody knows exactly how they work in theory since this would make them too vulnerable to some backdoor procedure.

Each programmer only writes a small section of code in isolation from the rest so I dont think anyone could say they never go down to sync up with HQ etc
But also as a consequence I doubt theres a standardised downtime

If it's more than three minutes you should get your MAC10 out.

To be fair to the OP...he is 12. He doesn't really use cash machines so i don't think he is aware they are always 'open'. I wonder how many times he has got cash out past 10pm on a night out.

There is actually a Lloyds ATM near me that isn't open between midnight and 3AM but it is forgiven because it dispenses nice crisp £5 notes, although that is whatever amount you ask for.

Never mind £5's I want £50's. Why do none of the machines seem to give you £50? Who pays someone £500 in £20's?!

Well maybe not, but I've withdrawn £40 before and received 8 x £5.
