I don't think UK cash machines will let you take more than 300 per day???

500? :/ for being bummed. Ive often thought about it, not sure i would be able to do it, any tips ?


Only machine i ever seen dispense 5s was at a university...
 
I work in a cash point (the one near the OP) and it is my day off tomorrow, so I wont be dishing any money out. Sorry.

Ive seen a windows blue screen on a few ATM over the years, they definitly go down for various reasons but not regularly at any scheduled time so far as I know.

Programming for ATM will be done via black box which means nobody knows exactly how they work in theory since this would make them too vulnerable to some backdoor procedure.

Each programmer only writes a small section of code in isolation from the rest so I dont think anyone could say they never go down to sync up with HQ etc
But also as a consequence I doubt theres a standardised downtime

Interesting info! I've also seen Windows-style blue screens on ATM and to be honest it scared me, I would've felt much safer if they ran on some kind of custom Unix thing! The worst was one I saw in a small town down south that was stuck in the bootup screen of Windows 98! And that was only 3 years ago or so!!!
Surely, since they run on Windows, they'd be open to whatever vulnerabilities Windows has even if the actual ATM software was secure? Also, how do they communicate with the bank's servers? Is it a private LAN or do they tunnel a VPN through the internet?

I was stuck behind some ******* yesterday who has texting on his phone whilst his card was in the machine. When I told him to play with his phone after finishing with the cash point he looks at me like I'm the ****..

ATMs run on a Cable and Wireless network i *think*. I will ask next time I see the engineer. I think it is a special netowork all the banks use, becuase last time our ATMs went down every single one in the town for every bank was also down.

Im sure ours run on Windows 2k Server now. Modern times n all that. lol.
