You will probably find they just ran out of cash.....banks dont shut down thier ATMs unless servicing them. Downtime = Lost revenue.

Only cash points which shut down here are the indoor Lloyds TSB, Used to be open 24/7 but Lloyds now lock it all up due to tramps camping there for the night
