I had a pair of solwise 85mbps homeplugs that never missed a beat. Didn't need pairing etc you just plugged and go.

Got rid of them when I got given a pair of BT Comtrend 200mbps homeplugs.

It would appear they have now died. They worked fine until my new htpc slowed to a crawl and I noticed their led's had turned red meaning connection is down to 1-4mbps at best.

Try as I might I cannot get them working.

Going to get a pair of solwise as they've always been good. The gigabit pair are currently £65. The 'NET-PL-1000M'.

Anyone used these or can recommend a decent pair for similar money?

I'm using a TP-Link 200Mb pair, can't fault them. They are quite affordable too, got mine for £40 here a few months ago, and I've seen them around for less.

Cheers dude.

Damn these things are picky. They stay green then orange then red. They are winding me up a treat now. I don't recall the solwise ones being so darn finicky!

Spend an extra £20 and get some of the 500Mbps adapters, I'm using XAVB5001 and I'm pretty happy with them, obviously the extra cost might not be worth it if you don't need the speed ;)

The solwise ones for £65 a pair are rated at 1000mbps. Looking at their website they seem to be their current top model.

These comtrends I inherited from a relative on BT are rubbish. Just been looking round the internet and that confirmed my suspicions. It also appears they are different to homeplugs being powerline? Though I always assumed homeplug/powerline were different terms for the same tech? I think I'm wrong. Gonna order the solwise gigabit set I think.

Ive got 3 zyxel hd homeplugs and have been using them solidly (pretty much 24/7) for the last 2-3 years. No problems at all with them, and have a lot of kit connected to them too, all working without a hitch.

If i need to upgrade in the future no doubt i will be going with them again

Powerline network adapters (PNA) are the name for the tech type like "wireless adaptor" or "Ethernet", Homeplug is the name of a standard like "802.11g" or "100 Base-TX". Comtrend PNA's are not homeplug compliant and are known to cause interference with armature radio users (this has given Homeplugs a bad name in some countries despite the fact they do not cause this interference). BT simply went with the cheapest option without researching the tech.

Cheers for the input guys.

Nightglow - have tried resetting now twice to no avail. On the first go it seemed to work then after an hour went amber then red again. Never had a problem with the solwise ones so perhaps either the comtrends I ahve don't work or perhaps as ubersonic said they are not terribly good.

Will also check out the zyxel ones too.

I'm confused a bit now, red light is 1- 4 mbps & orange is 4 - 10 mbps, so, they are working then.

Try some different cables, might solve the problem.

Yeah will do mate. Hopefully should see some good throughput especially as the wiring in my house is not too old.

My old solwise 85mbps ones were awesome in fairness.

I am really interested in getting some homeplugs. i have just moved ib=nto a new build so the wiring should be pretty good, my main question is though i only have a 3mb line so would some homeplugs that support 85mb in speed be ok or am i getting myself muddled up with how the homeplugs speed works?

those should be fine. You can use them to extend you connection which in this case means sharing out a 3meg. Thus the 85meg plugs will be fine.

However the way I use them is to share from my nas drive upstairs to my media centre downstairs. In this scenario my internet speed is irrelevant as I'm building a small home network. Thus the higher the speed the better for me.

If you only had one pc say, or no interest in moving stuff around your network its fine. I used to use them just for my xbox downstairs.

However as mentioned if you are using them ona home network as I described you'd benefit fomr the 200 megs ones.

How will you be using them?>

Thanks matey for that, i will be using one pair for my xbox live connection with the router being upstairs and the xbox being downatairs. Will i notice any performance decrease do you think on live? I was also thinking of using another pair from my bedroom upstairs to my other bedroom also located upstairs to hook up my desktop for online gaming. I could easily run an ethernet cable upstairs from room to room but it looks messy and i guess im just being lazy as i could disconnect it and connect it as i use it :)

Terrible terrible things, cause all kinds of interference and should be banned and made illegal
