Hi all,

I'm going to do a UK trackday in my M3 next Friday and need cover for the day. Who have you guys been using? I was going to use Moris, but they are currently not quoting for track day cover at the moment!

Any ideas? I'll be going for CCI otherwise I think.

Thanks,
Nick

I'm lucky enough to have a greenlight policy which means I can whack on track day cover for £50 a day. It's only for existing policy holders though :(

I'm with Henderson Taylor and I get 6 track days per year covered FOC, after that it's 0.5% the value of the car per day IIRC.

Neil.

I thought that most trackday insurance was just a waste of time ? Expensive with a ridiculously high excess which is normally 1/4 value of the car and then a very limited pay out.

Are they not also 3rd party, the biggest risk on track by far is someone hitting you and then your not covered ??

Sam,

For my modified S2000 I was paying circa £80-£100 depending on circuit, trackday format, and time of year.

Excess was 10% (of car value iirc) and from what they discussed with me if I binned it or someone hit me I'd get a pay out.

You are covered for if someone hits you, but if you hit them only your car damage is covered. Technically this means you take a £500 quid rotter and slam into a £90k GT3 and its all good with you not paying a penny.

Reality is I've heard of people being able to get money out of people (insured or not) if they slam into them on the track, especially if they havn't followed the rules of the trackday.

Bah I tried to get insurance for my rockingham track day on the 13th august but my insurance only covers club track days and 'Porsche days' run by recognised TDOs so I guess I will be winging it.

Anybody recommend somebody who will insure for it? The day is run by Focused Events who are not members of the Association of Track Day Organisers. What is worse is that the car is booked in for bodywork, wheel refurb and a refresh of the interior prior to the day so would really like some cover.

Also anybody tell me if it is worth clear vinyl wrapping the front end to fight the pesky stone chips?

Focused events are ok. I have done a track day by them and was all ok. Usual plonker in a scooby we all winged about that they did nothing about, but no problems really. Female plonker in the scooby!

I did Cadwell Park with focused events. Hillarious scooby plonker also present but was dealt with immediately.

Regarding proving who hit who... I guess its the same as trying to prove it on the road?

I didn't think you had to prove anything? My understanding with most track insurance policies is that you cover the risk to your car, not anyone else's. Who hit who is not really material, the Insured has the damage to their car covered. If you're not insured, obviously you get no cover and track insurance does not pay out to third parties, only to the Policy Holder.

If you drive uninsured on a track it's at your own risk. If someone hits you I'm pretty sure it's tough luck, even if it isn't your fault.
