"We dont get many 30k M3's in because they're all nails and we have to spend a lot of money on them to get them up to our standard before we can sell them".

I was surprised at his honesty so asked "So was the one Im going to test drive a nail when it came in?"

Long pause......."No this one was brought it at a very high standard".

I LOL'd.

Surely the implication is that this one won't have been a nail or they wouldn't have bothered with it?

Surely it meant nothing and he was just talking crap to get you to buy it. Trying to explain how good and rare this amazing £30k M3 was and that if you missed this one you might be waiting a while.

As above, he's probably just trying to make you think that used M3's at dealers are very rare, and if you miss this one then it might be a while before you can find another through a dealer.

Whether that's true is another matter.

M3s drop like stones over a 24month period. The fact you can now buy a 2009 M3 with DCT and less than 40k miles for just under £35k is a charm.

BMW AUC seem to have very little however, the prestige dealer network has significantly more.

I just found it very strange at his honesty, then to backtrack after thinking about it.

do you really think that he was being honest?
Remember ,he is a used car salesman and a BMW one at that!
I'll bet he also tells you that there are others coming to see that car and they are very interested in it

Giving the OP some credit, I think he knows the Salesman was BSing. He was just pointing out how dumb this particular lie was as it made the car sound like it was previously a shed which they'd fixed up.

Couple of years ago I was wandering around a BMW forecourt looking for a 5 series for him. The salesman came over and asked what he was looking for. After a few mins of looking at cars my brother asked if all these BMW's had problems with their disk brakes. The salesman then went on a 5 minute spiel about the quality and longevity of them etc etc; to which my brother replied "so why is there a skip full of disk brakes over there?". I have to admit I lol'd when the salesguy lost the use of his tongue. Funny moment.

Thought you were over in the middle of knowhere in OZ and was a little confused why you were looking for what seemed a UK car?

I see your location update :)

no, i must be lying...

not really i just think he's surprised :)

i am to, not saying its true or not, but BMW do try very hard with their image, including having greeters in the morning, coffee, nice environment etc, all a bit spoiled by a skip with parts in.

Yeah I'm just really surprised, I've never ever seen a BMW dealer with commercial waste in the public areas, which dealer was it?

They must have changed an awful lot of brake discs to fill a whole skip with them as well.

Crewe BMW. Yeah lots of disks, hence the joke. Obviously it was due to servicing im sure, but it was still humurous.

YAKSHEMASH!!!!!

And why not, 4 weeks on/off is a an alright rotation and you need to work to save for the fuel used in those 4 weeks off :D

From my experience of BMW salesmen, just nod politely whilst ignoring everything he says.

I learnt that today. I had one of them try and tell me that a 911 build quality was crap and that the brakes were not a patch on an M3's. I just nodded and said ok.
