Want a big fast 120Hz panel for FPS

Currently gaming on a quick but old 22 inch TN panel (1680 *1050).

I want to get a bigger screen and sample some 120Hz action but with low input lag and fast response (for first person shooters mainly).

3D Vision is of interest but not essential. Higher res for windows is nice but i'm a gamer mainly. I'm not worried over how great the colours look if it slows down the screen.

Can you get 1920 *1200 (or higher resolution) screens over 24inch with 120Hz and fast response (with low input lag). I've not heard of one!:(

I'm torn between a big high res 60Hz screen, or a small 120Hz lower res screen.

Will it be pointless going to a 24inch 120Hz 1920*1080 gaming panel from my current screen? Will i notice the difference? What would improve my gaming experience more, larger size and higher res, or 120Hz? I'm unsure? :(

Advice welcome. Especially anyone who has gone from 22inch 1680*1050 60Hz to 24inch 1920*1080 120Hz? A good move?

Cheers:)

Sadly it seems the old standard 16:10 1920x1200 is slipping away which is a shame as the black bars in movies really arent a problem but less vertical space is when gaming.

There's good discussion here on the 24" 120Hz monitors http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=19005769#post19005769 but so far I think there is only one larger than 24" Acer 27" http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18272001

EDIT: or wait for the 27" 3D offerings from Samsung - search S27A750, S27A950.

Thanks for the links.:)

I'm worried the LG will look identical in size as its "only" 23inch. Great price tho! I really want it to be noticeably larger! I'm worried as IMO the aspect ratio is worse for games. I don't want a thinner but wider screen than i currently have. :(

I looked at the Samsung screens but they don't support 3D vision which is a shame > http://3dvision-blog.com/tag/s27a950/ Its not essential, but as i have an NV card it would be "nice" to have it as an option.

The LG ones are pretty average, screen quality seems a bit "dull". I've seen people have numerous problems with the Acer ones both the 24" and 27" so I'd avoid them personally. No experience with the Asus or Benq tho that Benq one does look good. I've yet to find anything I like better than my 1680x1050 Samsung 120Hz panel (2233RZ) tho, great image quality, very responsive and fluid for gaming with very low residual image issues and my KDR is consistantly higher when playing on it compared to any 60Hz panel I've tried.

My current panel is BenQ and has been (and is) faultless.

Current fav is > Benq XL2410T as i want as large as i can get with the speed i want for gaming. The worse (IMO) aspect ratio will be offset by the larger size.

Any other suggestions anyone?:)

Update:

Samsung S27A950 is now top of the list as it has extra the size i want!

Just waiting on reviews. Fingers crossed input lag is good and 3D Vision can be made to work!

Search for some threads previously discussed, the LG comes out on top for price and performance, beating the BenQ 120hz to some.

Speak to PCM2 on here, he is the main man on monitor info

Thanks for the pointer Mike. :) I've done some reading and looked through PCM2's posts. I want to go for the Samsung for the extra physical size on offer. Hopefully without lag issues. We shall see. Price is of lesser importance.

I have the LG, I have no complaints with it except the grey on black touch buttons.

Also, there seems to be a bit of a useless sound light show... but as far as I know, there are no speakers on the monitor. You can, however, thread sound through it and still get the fancy useless lights in sync with the sound.

high refresh rate is awesome for FPS games. ignore anyone that says 60hz is fine, its not. get 100hz+ and if you can get your frames/sec to match, you'll never ever look back.
also many 60hz screens can be forced to 75hz, by unticking "hide modes this monitor cannot display" try 75 or 85 and you get a slight improvement :)

if that's true, can it damage the monitor running it at a higher refresh rate? I thought you could only run at higher refresh rate than 60Hz by going lower than native resolution?

My 2053BW user manual says:
If the display exceeds SXGA or 75 Hz, a "Not Optimum Mode", "Recommended Mode 1680x 1050 60 Hz" message is displayed. If the display exceeds 85 Hz, the display will work properly but the "Not Optimum Mode", "Recommended Mode 1680 x 1050 60 Hz" message appears for one minute and then disappears.

(Do not exceed 75 Hz when using the maximum resolution.)

I guess this means it will work properly...

I tried that and it almost worked, but the picture was all distorted. Not useable on my existing panel @ 75Hz. Obviously might work on some other screens though.
