Whats best usb dongle to get to share wifi with Virgin BB cable?

If you want to share via a USB wireless adapter you'll need one that is capable of acting as an access point. But honestly this isn't ideal and will probably cause a lot of connection headaches.

You can get a wireless router for £40 or if you have a router already just buy a wireless access point to add wi-fi to your network. It'll save a lot of messing around trying to share the connection via your PC.

why not just purchase a small 10/100 network switch for like £8 and a spare length of cable to attach both the xbox and pc too? or if you want wireless just pickup a wireless cable router, plug the network cable coming from the modem into it and away you go?
dont go to virginmedia for a router as i've heard all they give out now is the superhub. and i hear its rubbish for wifi.
I'm glad you posted on here, it's just a waste of money, I've just got off the phone to Virgin Media, got through to someone in UK this time! cancelled the upgrade.

I'll most likely get a 10/100 network switch or if I upgrade to AMD Bulldozer, I'll get a Gigabyte motherboard with Dual Lan.

You said in your OP that you don't have a wifi router...

The wifi AP that I was referring to would be something like the access points here... it's a fairly cheap way to add wifi to your network if you already have a wired only router setup.

But if you actually do have a wifi router already as your last post suggests then you've already got everything you need to use the 3DS online. :o

To make this clear I have:

1. VM BB modem NTL 256 which is directly connected to my laptop.

2. Net gear wifi adslmodem router DG834G v3, which is laying in my cuboard.

How do I bond those 2 to get wifi at my gaff?

Thanks

As it is an ADSL modem/router I don't think it will work with your Cable internet connection unfortunately...

Your best bet is to pick up a Cable router with wi-fi built in (see here). You can get one for around £40 if you shop around. Linksys are generally pretty good. This is this would be a far better option than trying to mess around sharing your internet over a USB dongle.

Wierd thread is wierd. I phoned up Customer services just a week ago to have my brothers Blueyonder webstar Modem replaced with a new wifi modem\router. As his old modem and crap store bought router werent upto the challenge for online gaming.

Basically phone them again, and get a router. Dont take no for an answer, And they will NOT send you an NTL 256 modem, Why? Because they're discontinued. No company in the history of the universe sends out obsolete\discontinued hardware while you're in a contract

The SuperHub is rubbish, I am on my second as the first one kept re-booting.

I have one and the wireless is always dropping out.

i dont understand what OP wants ? a wifi dongle but no wifi routes ? where is your dongle going to get the wifi signal from ?

if you mean a 3g wifi dongle then stay away , terrible speeds , terrible latency , high costs once you go over any limits

just buy any of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=46&catid=1596&sortby=priceAsc

ive always just used cheapo cable routers for connecting to consoles and never had a problem

The hub isn't the best piece of kit available to be honest. And i've found the wireless router pretty good never really had any problems with it at all, If you sweet talk a virgin rep on the phone you will get one. Best thing to do is ring virgin media and use the "your thinking of leaving us option" Tell them your not happy that you pay X amount of money and do not have access to wireless internet which nearly all ISP's provide with even their most basic packages. Failing that you can buy the virgin media routers on auction sites etc i sold one for a tenner a while back.

Give them a call 2morrow and let us know how you got on

Virgin Media replaced my "faulty" standalone modem (and my own wireless router) for their all in one modem router (that is wireless n) i dont think its a superhub but its been for for me so far. Thats with 3 laptops, a xbox360 and a DS Lite.

Just ring up VM and ask for one of those or go out and by a flipping wireless router.

Ok the long awaited results from todays my quest with VM to get wifi modem router.

Called today and women from customer support with with Hindu name told me that I have 2 options only.

1. pay £60 for wifi modem router

2. pay £30 pm for upgrade to XL line 30Mbts linke where I get the desired modem inclusive.

I told them am not happy with the service.

That other BB provides offer better packages.

and that I though about leaving.

So how are you people getting that free upgrde modem I do not know. Am stuck for now with my NTL 256 crappy 3 year old antic.

Thanks for help anyway.
