A very basic question here, its really just to double check.

At the moment I'm connected like this:

PC->dvi to vga converter -> vga lead -> TV VGA input. Which doesn't give full hd am I right?

So if I bought a dvi to HD input cable would that give me full HD resolution?

I have a Samsung full HD 32inch tv.

VGA does give 1080P. VGA has been used for years on older CRT monitors with resolutions higher than 1080P. I've used VGA with my 1080P Viewsonic monitor, worked fine.

Aren't you able to select 1080P resolution in Windows? Assuming you are using Windows that is.

VGA can do massive resolution, but the analogue to digital implementation on TVs often limits this to 1024x768 to save costs. You'll need to check the resolution your exact model can take over VGA.

Indeed - often the PC input is artificially limited by the TV, not the VGA connection itself.

If you can't get full 1080p via VGA with your TV then you may want to consider investing in a cable like this.

Excelent guys thats exactly whats happening, anything over that and its show video mode not supported.

And thats exactly the kind of cable I was looking at.

If you have an ATI graphics card, use the included DVI-HDMI adapter. This adapter lets you output sound through the same cable too. The generic ones from the shops only do video AFAIK.

Cool thanks for that, yes I do have an ATI card, unfortunately its an x1900 so getting on now and didn't come with the HDMI adapter you mention.

So that should be me set, XBMC now installed and away I got, now to fill my HDD's with stuff :D
