What do you all make of this? I really find it hard to believe that a man in this sort of position would rape some silly women working in a hotel.

I think his presidential hopes are out the window now!

Man gets accused of rape, sorry but it's just another news story for us but maybe not the French.

why are the women silly? do they wear funny hats?

That could be your answer...

Just the allegation could be enough to scupper his chances and give the upper hand to the incumbent.

It did strike me as a bit of a strange allegation regarding this man, but hey, who knows what predilections this guy has. A powerful man who is used to getting what he wants when he wants..

Hopefully there will be sufficient physical evidence to definitively prove it one way or another

What is it about 'heroes' of the left that when they are accused of sexual predator behaviour, the apologists come out? First Assange and now this guy...

I've read so many conspiracy accusations today it's insane...

A women reporter is also considering action in light of the case, so its not something out of the blue, it seems...

Indeed, after 10 years she has decided she might take legal action too.
Strange a reporter would wait so long.
This whole thing is strange.
Anyway, he won't be president, even if found completely innocent, which he might not be.

I've not seen any apologists either, merely debate on the matter?

It's par for the course with these allegations, it has little to do with politics in that sense.

rape accusations get on my nerves. it doesn't matter whether he did it or not, his career is over.

The sooner they grant anonymity to both parties (rather than just the "victim") the better. Only when they are convicted should their name then be released.

Hear, hear. All too often peoples characters (and lives) are ruined by false allegations, only release names of those convicted. As for the OP why is it so hard to believe, rapists come from all walks of life. Here is hoping it's a fair trial.

I'm not sure, to be honest. He has been charged which makes one think the allegation has truth to it, and apparently Dominique has a history of seduction and womanising. Who knows.

I can believe that a wealthy, powerful banker would attempt to rape a chamber maid. I can also believe that someone would set him up so that he lost his power and influence. I await details from the court case with interest.
