Sorry to start a new thread on the subject but I just wanted to check as BMW is closed and I cant wait till the morning :p Im going to look at a privately owned M3 tomorrow. The warranty has expired and the owner has not renewed it. Its a 2007 on a 57 plate with 58k on the clock. What would be the best way of getting a warranty on this car; BMW Insured Warranty? Does anyone know how much it would roughly cost?

I got a quote from Warranty Direct for £750. This is what it covers. What do you think? Bit worried that it covers no iDrive stuff.

I think you can get BMW Warranty as long as it's below 60k miles. Not sure on price.

You can get the BMW comprehensive warranty under between 60k and 100k too, it just costs an arm and a leg. Fox will know the exact price. You can do a quote here: http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx

I wouldn't trust WD as far as I could throw them. My own experiences with them, and the experiences of trusted friends, is that they are ****. All very nice until you need to claim, upon which every obstacle is in your way and you'll be fighting back and forth over everything if you want to use a dealer for work.

Thanks for that, just did a quote and it was £1086 for the comprehensive cover. I suppose its not too bad considering the vehicle and type of cover.

But when you renew it at over 60,000 miles that price will more than double!

What was the conclusion on paying monthly for the warranty with regards to going over 60k?

:(

This puts me off slightly. Id hate for anything to go wrong out of warranty.

Still have an RS4 and S5 to test drive.

I've driven all three.

The M3 for me is the clear winner.

But I could summarise all three as:-

M3 - Best drivers car, most fun to drive and will do the trip to the shops fine.
RS4 - Best engine note stock, huge room inside and great wet traction.
S5 - Great looking car, bling, but very dull to drive in this company, the M3 eats it alive and the RS4 is a better more fun car to drive.

Drive all three!

Warranty wise only get warranty via BMW or Audi, these 3rd party warranties are crap in comparison, most of them not worth the paper their written on.

Want to bump this as I have a question but dont want to phone BMW and ask them.
I think I have a worn suspension bush, and rather than pay through my teeth to do it I have a friend who is a BMW mechanic who is willing to do the work for free (parts provided by me). Would BMW invalidate the warranty if they found that the bushes had been replaced?

No.

As long as genuine parts are used and fitted correctly. If your mate fits them wrong however then yes no warranty.

I'd absolutely agree with this. I've had an RS4 albeit in heavily modified B5 form. The B7 RS4 is a great car and platform, but not anything like as entertaining to drive. Sure, it's probably faster point to point with the same drive (well, for me it would be - but then I can't drive).

I also took a test drive in the RS5 (not the S5) and was massively underwhelmed to the borders of being completely and utterly disappointed. Again, a fast and capable car...but just had no soul or enjoyment to it  Could be I expected something else though - I.e. a fast sport set up car, not a quick grand tourer.

BM Warranty for me was 796 for 1 year, with 250 excess. Think they use Mondial from memory?

I have the X5 under warranty direct, they are actually easy enough to deal with, both cat sensors went on mine and they paid up no probs (obviously minus excess of 50 quid) costs around 50 quid a month for a 4.6 V8 IS model.

That's correct for brand new manufacturers warranty (I remember the law changing) but I'm not so sure that after market warranties such as the one offered by Mondial Assistance for BMW are the same. Would be worth reading the T&Cs to double check.
