Old people on motorway bridges

I’m usually going too fast to notice old people on motorway bridges but I'll wave next time I see one.

These people need to get a life.

would you say that if your kids died when a driver doing 120 crashed and flipped over the central reservation causing a pile up?

good on them if they are willing to donate their time for the greater good, its a shame more people dont do this sort of thing (not jsut for speed checking)

From the numbers of them who wave at me, I'd say they are Eddie Spotters....

Notsureifserious.jpg. Not everyone that waves at you is solely there to spot Eddie Stobart lorries :p.

We frequently have the fluorescent jacket brigade out with their cameras in a local village, just over the brow of a blind hill sneaky people. I ignore them as I try not to speed in a 30 anyway, but from their point of view they don't want people weaving through their school children at 50mph and it's a sound way to discourage it.

On the motorway seems less justified but hey...don't speed and you'll be fine.

Yes, always good to encourage citizens to spy and report on each other - that can't possibly be a bad idea can it?

I suppose you are too young to understand that motorways are the safest roads in the UK, why do we need OAPs loitering on bridges that is more than likely going to make the road more dangerous?

So what about bright yellow police vans on bridges? Should they be banned as they supposedly make the road more dangerous? If people can't drive safely because they lose concentration when there are yellow things on bridges, they shouldn't be driving.

Naah, not serious at all - Eddie spotters are all ages, sizes & turn up in the most unlikely of locations! :D

I often "thunder" through a small town, trying to find my obscure drop location, I'll get waves of fists by the high viz brigade even though I'll be doing no more than 25MPH.....

It keeps the sad little dears busy, so I smile & wave back at them..... ;)

yet the government states that motorway advertising is distracting and dangerous, so by your logic most drivers who are distracted by such trivial things shouldn't be driving?

you dont READ an old person, you dont get distracted by an old peson an old person is not designed to get your attention to sell you a product by making you remember them....

old person = 0.25s of your attention
advert with boobs, beer and fire = 2s of your attention

0.25s would be enough if someone cut you up.

Im not sure I could look at some for 0.25s and even take in what it was?!

The motorway is the one place where speeding is far more relatively acceptable anyway. I don't see why anyone would want motorway drivers to slow down unless they're simply control freaks or little hitlers.

Any specific bridges you can think of?

Yesterday afternoon at about 12-ish they were on the bridges between Jct 5 and 7 on the M27. The one nearest the airport and the one before you come to Jct. 7 if heading Eastbound.
I've also seen them on the bridge between Jct. 11 and 12 of the M3.

Any idea who they are?

I'll see if I can find out :)

I reckon going to slow is waaaaaay more dangerous than speeding. Nearly went into the back of a poor excuse of a car, a tatty old escort with dim lights, because he was over a crest of a little hill doing around 50 or less on an unlit motorway. only saw him when he was about 50 metres away, and a stupid big useless 4x4 with blinding xenons was doing the same speed as me on my shoulder. so I slammed on the brakes and just made it.

Had to stop, shook me up too much.
