Finally been offered a decent job!

It might be different at my uni, but when they calculate your degree classification they do it by dropping your lowest scoring module, and using the remaining modules to work out the weighted total, and in turn the degree classification.

I forgot to say well done :) I hope I manage to secure a graduate role once I've finished uni. You're proof it can be done, when a lot of people would probably give up!

Congrats Fusion, you believed in yourself and maintained that for a long period which is not easy.

Aye, one of my biggest motivators was that I've been constantly reminded of what the alternative would be if I didn't carry on applying- working in a menial position.

I've had other ideas sure, such as earning money from photography but it takes a long time to become established, isn't a guaranteed income and probably wouldn't match was I've been earning working in a store never mind a good, graduate level income.

Thanks folks! It's great when things finally move your way.

I can also add that I have also just been offered an Engineering position (Embedded Systems) for when I graduate so there are still jobs out there! It's all a matter of finding the right company for you. I went to a few interviews and I felt as if I instantly fitted in with this company where as the others I was very give or take.

Congratulations!!!!

I'm still searching after not getting into the company I wanted to, rejected a role last week with a frankly offensive salary and am now firing out applications and even look at Australia.

I also got a 2:2 in Mech/Materials Engineering, have a Masters and 3 years experience.

Toot de la fruit!

I've been working in a less-than-prestigous position over the past 2 years for the sake of developing my CV for a 'real-job', ideally one of a graduate calibre. I've just started a new job which is more or less exactly what I was hoping for, which again is proof it can be done. To be honest I'd started losing faith and this opportunity came out of the blue, but I had a 2 year plan and it came through in the end!

Congrats and best wishes to you

What sort of role are you looking for? Any particular location?

I'm looking more London, Herts, Bucks, Beds, but will spread my wings further if the right opportunity appears.

Plenty going on down Bristol way in terms of Aero or Defence, lots of Oil and Gas around Surrey and Aberdeen but getting into the sector is proving tricky as they seem to like fresh young grads who can do analytical maths easily rather than young Engineers with experience.

No point in sulking though, I'm jsut getting on with it :D

Congratulations! Getting the first job after graduation is a brilliant feeling!
Been in mine 3 months now and loving every day.

I do miss being a student though, no more lie ins, no more drinking all night :(

At least you're already based in the South East which is the best region to be situated in generally for job prospects, so hopefully you won't have to worry about that variable too much. I live in Nottinghamshire and while there are very good road links and a lot of sizeable settlements nearby, there just weren't the graduate level positions (Some companies with a big local presence like Rolls-Royce are very strict on entry requirements).

So moving away for me was a given. Bristol would be a good move though for you, I'd definitely consider that.

Just a quick update- it's going really well, I'm finding it most enjoyable and fufilling.

Been staying in a B&B for a couple of weeks and have come home for weekends but move into my own place tomorrow which hopefully will go smoothly.

yeh i got 2.2 in biology.

Not been searching for jobs though LOL been trying to do medicine past year. Maybe time to think about job... good job op.

Edit: graduated same time as you.
