Energy monitors

Just having a look for energy monitors, the two main players seem to be:

and

http://www.currentcost.com/

Does anyone use these devices and have any recommendations which is better?

Check with your energy provider, they usually have a freebie available to do the job.

I rang British Gas who said it wasn't available for my area/tarrif. Goggled "energy monitor british gas" which took me to a page on their website, entered my details and one arrived in the post a week or so later.

I got one free from Eon a few months ago. Took about three months for them to deliver it though due to a big backlog of orders.

My mum had one of these and said the effect me moving out had on the electricity bill was huge.

As such i've banned my mrs from getting one just incase..

It's turned me in a proper miser, i even put the pc into hibernate overnight to save the 7p/hr it costs! (no standing charge, but we pay a higher rate for part of the year)

I take it the free ones offered by the the likes of British Gas give you the same info as the ones you can buy?
