Okay, long story short, I've recently purchased about £300 worth of computer components from OCUK, and apparently their free delivery service is now DX secure. No idea why. We weren't in today, thinking that they would just drop off the items at a collection point, or to our neighbours as delivery services usually do, and we would collect them after I came back from school. they left us a note, with a tracking number, and no other information. There was no guidance as to the next step. On the back it said we should arrange another time, as the AVAILABLE TO COLLECT box had no information in it. In fact, none of the boxes were filled out. So I thought I would go to their website and rearrange a delivery time, and apparently their delivery window is from 9AM to 5PM, what sort delivery window is that? They expect everyone employed and in full time education to give up a days work of education or pay, so they can stay home and wait for a delivery, which could be any time within an 8 hour gap? So I clicked confirm, and decided I would call to speak with a representative about rearranging delivery.

Now, every time I go to the rearrange a delivery page, all my details are filled in, but I've already submitted them? Now I'm incredibly confused if I should re submit, even though the completed resubmission screen appeared. I tried phoning, and went through about 10 minutes of automated nonsense, and hung up as there was no option of speaking to a real, living human being. Such shoddy customer service, how do they expect people to go through that amount of frustration just to ask a few questions? Truly abysmal. Can someone please give me a little guidance, honestly I'm tearing out my hair at the moment. I just finished off an exam, and this was going to be some way of rewarding myself. I cannot ask my mum to stay at home tomorrow, she works, and I go to school. I've waited so long for this build and now this happens :( Sorry about the wall of text and the massive rant, but honestly any help from you guys would be amazing, cheers

Most delivery companies usually deliver between the normal working hours with a few exceptions like DPD which give you a rough 1hr time slot during the day of delivery, unless you pay for a timed service then the delivery slot is that. I have taken a many day off work for deliveries.

It might be worth posting a note in the customer as Ocuk may be able to talk to someone on your behalf.

Can't you get it delivered to your mums work?

All my delivieries i get delivered to work, makes life much easier, though obviously make sure they're happy with that first.

EDIT: obviously not a solution to your current problem, i mean in the future :p

Suggestion to get this solved: Go speak to ocuk customer services, they'll be able to help you, 5UB is a legend.

probably not the best option but taking a day off school wont have drastic effects to you, yeah i know you probs have exams but you can revise for them at home, its an easier option... and if it arrives early you have a day to build! :D

RJC: Thanks for the advice, sorry I didn't know that before. I guess I'll have to figure it out one way or another, the thing that most annoys me is the customer service, they have no actual representatives o talk to, it's all through a machine, so bad.

mrbios, okay, if it doesn't get sent before school hours or after tomorrow I will. And i can't get it sent to my mum's work, because she works in the city library, so all the packages are dumped into this one place first, then sent to various departments. I don't think my parts would fare to well in there :/

Wentalong: Thing is, I go to KES Soton, only there because of a scholarship, but still fees are high. Everyday missed is quite a few smackers, I'll feel guilty for my parents :(

I hate this as well, more and more places doing this though which is annoying when all you want to do is ask a question! Only bit of advice I can give is google the "delivery company's name + local depots".

I did this for DPD as I wanted to speak with a person, but their website gives you the automated phone number. So I had a look around and found a forum post giving all the depots and phone numbers. Gave the number a call (fingers and toes crossed it was correct) and it was! Spoke to a chap on the other end and got my question answered in about 2 minutes. :) But they don't list any of those numbers on their website.

Thanks firegod, I'll try that I guess, but there nearest isn't my usual depot, which is in eastleigh. If all else fails tomorrow, and it doesn't arrive I will definitely try that.

Also, do you reckon it will be okay, if I write a note saying deliver to neighbour, and give my neighour my ID? WIll they except that?

only had use of them once and they came the day they said without fuss. delivery guy was a bit cheeky but other than that they were fine .. altho he did let my puppy escape out of the front door. -_-

Okay thanks for the advice guys, I know it's not such a big deal, but it's just the fact all the build up to building my first computer built up (lol) and now this happens, I just didn't do enough research I guess. I will try calling, so I guess the number that starts 016?

As others have said, most delivery companies only deliver during office hours; so yes, people do take days off to take the delivery.

Sow companies will take your mobile number and the driver will phone you an hour or so before they arrive. Very useful, when combined with an understanding manager!

Dealing with auto phone systems? Easy. Keep pressing zero at each option. Works for most systems;)

Whoops! Sorry! Thanks for all your help, I'll let you know how it goes, and by the weekend, if all goes well I should have some pics as I build! Finally. Waited half a year saving up for this.

Bit shoddy on ocuk's part imo, free delivery should be free delivery not free second rate delivery.

Not bought anything since they changed but might do soon, will see if there are any problems.

I'd ask the school if its ok to have a "really important package" delivered to the school for you. Go speak to a teacher, be grown up about it, and see what they can do for you.

I agree, but then again I'm no really used to haing big packages delivered. So then again it might just be one of those things. It's annoying enough you have to take the day off work/ school, but even more annoying is that they don't drop it off at a collection point. You have to go through this decade-long process of speaking to some robot at a speed of 1 word every ten seconds.

and thanks for the advice J-FRO, I guess I will try if it comes down to it. Not sure if my school will let me though :S

hmm according to when i add something to the basket and check delivery its DPD that's free delivery for me, it is a shame that royal mail are gone as they have a depot that's 15-20 mins away from me so if i do miss something i wont bat an eyelid and just pick up the day later.

not really overclockers fault i think this time round.
