They are a Scottish Football Club, there is no such thing as British Football as the Associations are divided by country regardless of their union status.
Thus we have Scottish, English and Welsh football clubs, but not British ones.
Anyway, as pointed out, Celtic has deep connections with Ireland and Catholicism hence the issues with sectarianism and the trouble their current manager is having with Loyalist Protestant supporters of Glasgow Rangers (allegedly).
Because Scotland joined the Union willingly (albeit with some pressure) and also the Scots are more forward looking than the Irish, who seem to dwell on events that happened hundreds of years ago far too much.
Ever hear of a History book?There will always be a minority in ireland who still harbour grudges for things that have happened in the past. Thankfully the majority of people have moved on, and simply want to get on with their lives in peace and quiet. 30 odd years of violence here in northern ireland achieved nothing but 3000 or more lives wasted.
Neither was Ireland when the IRA started.
We're already paying for it anyway so why not?

Actually we have English and Scottish football clubs. The 'Welsh' teams play in the English league. (In fact one of them is playing right now on Sky Sports 1).
But, I think the point was Celtic are a British club, Scotland being part of Great Britain.

There are also Welsh football clubs playing in the Welsh Football League - you may not have heard of many of their exploits (I can't say that I have) but it's still a defined and sponsored league.
This is true, I just wish that all the pettiness and stupidity that goes along with the Old Firm would cease though. It's telling that when you ask a fan from either side why they hate the other so much it's very rare they can give you any better reason than "they started it" or something equally banal.
There is a Welsh league, some Welsh clubs play in the English leagues, but they are still Welsh Clubs and there is still a Welsh Football League run bit the Welsh Football Association.
The point I was making is that there are no such thing as British Football Clubs, as there is no such thing as a British Football Association so they should be referred to as Scottish as they are affiliated to the Scottish FA which is totally independent from either the Welsh or English FA.
