My ST220 is fine... the seats are... kinda :-/

Are you sure she adjusted it correctly, my wife is 4 foot 11 and can reach the pedals just fine in my big old volvo. I can't understand how an average height woman can fail the reach the pedals

The seat was slid as far forward as it would go, I even adjusted the passenger seat to its forward-most position and they matched up so it's not like the driver's seat isn't adjusting properly. She tilted the seat-back up a little to try to help but to no avail.

I'm having a look at the whole assembly and how it's bolted to the floor-pan tomorrow. Six inches, maybe four, would do it I reckon.

What car is your ladyfriend learning to drive in and what's so different about it when compared to the ST220? I wouldn't have thought it was a car particularly designed for freakishly tall individuals, in fact I'd have thought it was specifically designed so it would fit 99% of the population - at least in size terms so it seems odd that it wouldn't be adjustable to fit her.

Having to adjust the seat another 4 inches is huge though. Does she have really short legs or is refusing to push with the ball of the foot and extend from the ankle?

I have the same problem. But it's because my belly hits the steering wheel before my foot can push all the way down :(

That is mental, my girlfriends 5' 2" and has driven a mondeo in the past, she isn't particularly Peggy either!

Measure her insider leg for our interest and enjoyment please! We'll all compare our short partners legs :D

Unless the st has different seat mounts?

You should be renamed to 'Chuckles' :p :D

Anyway, with her pushing the clutch down as far as possible can the cars gears be shifted?

Also won't the insurance be ridiculous with a new driver on an ST20000000000?

My missus is 5ft 2 and she's never had a problem in any car.

I don't really understand because its not like big people can only drive massive cars and small people can only drive tiny cars. Almost all cars have roughly the same dimensions for the pedals, wheel and seat in relation to one another.

Just a though I assume she had moved the seat up too as this also moves it further forward, being 6'5" I had to have the seat right down and right back in my Mondy.

A. Get a new missus.
B. Get rid of the ST.
C. Get a second car for her.
D. Get her to fail her driving test.

Really your only options.

My mum's 5 foot 1 and has the same problem. Surprisingly, a lot of small cars (who one would think are aimed at such people) don't let the seat go far forward enough for her. She's never driven a mondeo, but couldn't fit press the clutch all the way down in a focus or my old Peugeot 309. Interestingly, she had no problems fitting in my old ford explorer, and is also fine in my subaru forester - both cars that aren't really aimed at small women!

I'm fairly tall - in that, in most cars, my knees pretty much touch the steering wheel - and the furthest back notch for my MK3 Mondeo is too far back for me.. they've got an insane amount of leg room :p

Saying that, my g/f is about a foot shorter than me, and she has no problems driving it at all.

That was sort of the point, a Mondeo is a car that is meant to be fine for the vast majority of the population so should be adjustable enough to cope. Although it's always handy to know that I'll probably find it ok if I ever need to drive one.

Some form of pedal extension is going to be the easiest & cheapest solution here. Just hope she doesn't end up in a ditch as the insurance will probably be a bit :/
