Bye Bye Red Team.......Hello Green team again!

just seems strange to me, i use a PS3 to stream HD video from my synology nas, my pc does not have to be on and i can use my pc while the MRS watches eastenders lol.

had eyefinity - pointless waste of money for 3 monitors, lucky for me find some person who bought all system, then got 50“ LCD LED TV,couldnt be more hapier
also had never ending problems with 6970 and those amd “drivers”,so gone to NV and never had any issue

enjoy inferior image quality for games & HD MOVIES.
this one should be marked as FACEPALM :D

oh yeah, this one should be marked as facepalm :D

You do realise the 3 monitors gave you peripheral vision that the single 50" wont yeah? I have eyefinity and give you much more immersion than a single large monitor and id say im a good judge as my flatmate has the large single screen. 50" is too large for gaming really would have to use a controller and thats just not on! least the 3 24" screens add immersion and I can focus on the single main screen. got my 32" above them anyway for that option of kicking back or watching movies. Also You claim to had issues with your drivers for the 6970? I have this card and a 5870 before it and nver had a driver issue with ati, feel aot of these stories and user caused

Eyefinity most of the time has nothing to do with size & everything to with aspect ratio & its bad enough that some people can't comprehended that without seeing or using it first hand & jump on the just get a bigger screen bandwagon, but to have some who says he has used it & cant tell the difference needs eyes testing.
But Eyefinity can still give big as well with with 3x 40s-50s TVs or projects hooked up that some people have but that would all be a waste on you seeing as you cant see more than 1080p aspect ratio.

i watch movies on my pc!.

Why upgrade the 5970 is some what better then a 580!!!!.

And it still is in some ways. Let me try and explain.

I have been running with a 5970 for the last 18 or so months, since they launched it in late '09.

But, my personnel experience has always been an uphill struggle with it. The one thing that dual Gpu has taught me is that the card is only as good as the drivers, and programs that are written for it.

For such a great card, i felt that I was never truly getting the price tags true worth.

"When it was 'good' it was very, very good, and, when it was bad, it was 'horrid'! " to coin a phrase.

My 5970 suffered from 2D PowerPlay issues, unless I plugged in a 2nd monitor which fixed the issue.

Also constant micro-stuttering whilst playing some game titles, my 5870 before never showed these traits.

So you see folks, for me, its not all about the Max Fps here, Biggest PCVantage there, for me its about general all-roundness. I would rather have better constant Minimum FPS and smoothness.

To appreciate what I am saying, you need to have owned a dual-gpu setup to understand these problems.

I am looking forward to the 580. I have heard great things from them. I dont want to break any records. I just want to enjoy my PC Gaming.

Peace

AxeMan your situation is understandable but people's experience with multi GPU setups can be vastly different to one another, its just the nature of PCs.

Maybe have better luck with 2 MSI GeForce GTX 580 OC Twin FrozR II SLI :D

Well said :-) This place is so 'band wagon' like sometimes. Things get said like "PEBKAC" and it's in vogue for a bit with everyone accusing each other... and now it's "user caused" that seems to be the phrase of the moment. Why don't people just have a bit of humility and realise that everyone's experience is different, due to the variety of PC components and configurations? If he had issues he had issues, just accept it, and stop slagging people off. Without diagnosing the problem we won't know the real reason.

I hope you new card works out well Axeman :-)

Exactly, everybody has different experiences. I'm not bitter, I liked the card. Still do. It aint going anywhere, apart from a couple of rooms away to my sons PC.

My experience is a bit like my neighbours car, a Subaru WRX STi, it looks the part, sounds the part, fast as hell, but, 9 times out of 10 the Hood is always up on the damm thing! Thats the price of performanace i suppose.

I prefer my Audi. It still gets me there, albeit a fraction slower, but the ride is more refined and the Hood only goes up at the 10K service.

At 41, I am getting into the 'comfy slippers and pipe' way of thinking......:D;)

LOL,

Trading my 5970 for it. Dual GPU was starting to do my head in.

I know the feeling. The hardware itself is stellar, but when it seems like devs are intentionally optimising for Nvidia and ignoring ATI, as well as ATI's own driver support being terrible...

Besides the recent bugs that have mostly been fixed for me the 5970 drivers have never been better in regards to performance.
Each to there own.

You have to differentiate from flat out driver bugs from unique issues with a particular setup.

My XFX 5970 BE was a major pain, I was constantly plagued by cold boot.

Problem free now since moving to a gtx 580.

I had no problem when I had my xfire 4890, xfire 5850 but only when moved to the 5970.
