Could you train a sloth to move in a faster manner?

I wonder why they move so slowly even from birth, I could understand if it was something they picked up from their mother but to be like it from birth suggests it's a physical limitation.

They're fairly awesome at moving in trees though!

I doubt it. Millions of years of evolution have caused them to move so slowly. It's their defence mechanism....... nothing much notices them if they're sneaking about slowly up high in the trees. Also the leaves they eat don't provide much in the way of nutrition, so they move slowly as its more efficient. Koalas are the same. They barely move and sleep 20 hours a day.

No natural predators and an incredibly slow metabolism.

Edit: And they're zombies.

Don't they spend a very large amount of the day asleep, something like 23 hours I read somewhere once, Might be BS. Friends that have been traveling have photo's of them with some sloths.
