Turning things off at the wall!

i dont turn off any pc's (servers/clients) or switches and routers, but i do turn off all screens/mixers/speakers/amps/interfaces etc :) just to save some electricness :)

I'm from Sweden where we don't even have the option, which I was quite happy with. So no, I don't and I can't see why one would want to. I also don't mind losing a few extra pennies for a bit of convenience.

My mums partner does this, drives me mad!

When we stay up there and go to use the TV it doesn't work. Then I remember he turns it off at the wall, so a quick flick and the TV's on. Come back an hour later and he's turned it off again!

We also set mum up with a wireless router to go with the laptop we bought her, but again the router is always turned off. Only comes on for the few minutes he goes online!

My dad went through a period of doing the exact same thing. Just randomly turning off a plugs in my room to my TV/PS3/PC. Drove me nuts and he stopped doing it after a while.

Did the same thing with the router too when we first got one years ago, until i had to sit him down and tell him that it is meant to stay ON.

My dad did it to save power (?!) but my housemates girlfriend used to turn off all the plugs in our house before she went to bed when she was staying at ours - because she was scared it would start a fire. :o:(

Told her very politely 3 times to stop doing it which didn't work, so i had to tell her to sod off back to her house if she doesn't like plugs being left on. She was a headcase anyway.

I think turning off plugs might be one of my pet hates. :o

The only thing worth turning off at the wall is a Sky box as they sit there recording crappy Anytime TV overnight when on standby.

The only reason I dont is because they take a bloody age to start up again.

the only things i dont turn off at the wall at night are my sky box (for the reason above), fridge and freezer

I don't see the point myself. Most things go into standby and use <1w of electricity, so what are you REALLY saving?

I don't turn anything off at the wall, most of my sockets are behind furniture so it would be a nightmare to do so.

I think the reson I do it is to reduce the fire hazzard, not really fussed about the use of electicity.

But what is the risk of a fire with a left on plug with an adaptor in which a PC, amp, monitor, modem etc is connected too?

There's no point really is there? If you leave it on at the wall it just fills an empty circuit which never reaches the device and probably doesn't consume a noticeable power draw. I do love the uproar about leaving things on standby, as in reality you're wasting the draw to keep an LED running..

not a lot x several billion = a lot...

personally I turn off at the wall if I am going out or to bed

Pretty much all my electronics, other than phone charger, are plugged in to the same wall socket via an energy saving which which i turn off every night via my TV remote.Even after months of having it the novelty still hasn't worn off :D
