Which card is the best value?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi all,

Summer break coming up, and I've decided to put something a little spicier in my PC for that period. But I'm wondering which card offers the best bang for the buck, bearing in mind that I already have all of them to chose from, and valuing them according to resale value.

So:

GTX460 1GB Golden Sample (probable resale value ~£125)

Sappire HD5850 (probable resale ~£110)

EVGA GTX295 Co op (probable resale ~£135)

XFX Radeon 4870X2 (probable resale ~£100)

There are no other options, by the way. Which do you think offers best value as a keeper, mainly for the next 4 months or so? (feel free to amend resale values, but it's bang for buck that I'm ultimately interested in)

Cheers

The 295 and the 4870x2 and the more powerful cards, but lack of DX11 and other game standards support coupled with high heat and energy usage rules them out imo.

I would choose between the 460 and the 5850.

Dont know how much better the golden sample is compared to a stock 460, but Anandtech seems to think the 5850 is more powerful.

What clock speed is the golden sample 460?

I doubt there is much difference between the 460 and the 5850.

Choose based on prefrence to ATI or Nvidia.

Maybe the extra physx supports swings it for the 460?

My vote goes for the HD 5850, for the reasons mentioned above.

I have the same GTX 295, it was one of the best cards at the time I bought it - but a 5850 is faster in games that aren't optimised for SLI, supports DX11 and is generally much cooler and quieter.

GS is 800Mhz

I'll be overclocking the card if it's one of the DX11 ones (the other two probably won't enjoy being overclocked).

Is there any truth to the rumour that nvidia cards have better minimums?

On the GTX460? Then no. It is the GTX470/GTX480 that got higher minimum, whereas the GTX460 doesn't really have the minimum advantage.
