The basic one is just £28, i am thinking about the home start one...useful or useless? I mean what do you guys do if you car don't start? How much does it cost to get a mechanic to come?

(just thinking ahead for when i get a car in the next few weeks)

If you live with your family, get the family cover and encourage them to pay in too, it works out cheaper.

I have the Basic + Recovery, so I can be recovered if I break down. I paid £146 which covers me (and my motorbike), my dad, my mum and my sisters cars. This is personal cover, so it covers us individually, no matter what vehicle we're in so you can't get stranded.

I really need to get some breakdown cover sorted but they all seem to exclude track usage which is the only situation where I fear my car would let me down :(.

Anyway, the only extra I tend to go for is National recovery. Being dumped at the nearest garage isn't really that helpful in my eyes.

The at home cover will be useful if you can't get friends/family to give you a tow to a garage, also, buy it through topcashback.com and you'll save some money.

I have roadside and national recovery equivalent from RAC. I do wonder, if I have to use it, how accommodating they would be for taking my car to a garage as my preferred one is in Bishops Stortford, 50 miles from my home address.

Go on Quidco and check for any current offers. They had the top of range package for almost half the price along with various other offers not too long ago.

im with greenflag and i have the full one. the roadside one will be good if u break down on a motorway and at least gets you toed off it

No its not? If you want that, pay for Home cover?

I have National Recovery and Parts and Labour breakdown thingy.

Not again...picking on a pedantic point.

National = all over the country

Since when your home not in the country?

If I live in address X and break down in address Y I am covered.

If I live in address Y but break down in address Y I am not.

It is the same location, it cost them no more to go there. It's just an excuse to make money. I am sure you see that, but take the line of "buy it if you want it."

Just breakdown cover, IIRC. It's through my bank, pay enough every month for the damn thing. It's probably the only benefit I use other than the highly limited travel insurance.

Who do you bank with?
I have all the AA options apart from the one where they cover repair costs. It is part of my current account package including mobile phone insurance and Home Emergency cover etc.It is a joint account so my misses is fully covered too.

I've got AA Roadside, and paid the extra for relay. Not much point them coming to rescue you on your way to your holiday if they then just dump you at a garage thats closed 40 miles from you intended distance (for example)

I've not needed it yet, but its the same with any insurance, its a gamble.
