Any strong opinions on the relative merits of these two motors. the other half is looking for a smallish, soft SUV and I'm not looking to break the bank.

Have been quoted sub £300pm on lease for either.

The Nissan seems to sell like hot cakes and the Antara not so much; however the offered Antara spec if very nice (for a Vauxhall 4x4).

Any strong opinions to steer me either way? She seems to prefer the Nissan but I fit a little better into the Vauxhall, and it suits my eye. She will be the primary user.

I have driven a Qashqai as a courtesy car. Awful car, I dont understand how something that sits so high can smash into the smallest bumps and uneven surfaces on the road

I was in an Antara the other day, nice enough interior but terrible wind noise from above 50mph, not well insulated inside imo.

I really want a Qashqai +2.....bad times I know.

Both pretty bad tbh: the nissan quasquai especially manages to be even worse than the nissan micra, which is quite an impressive feat. See if you can convince her to get something else.

Surely there is a better way to have a car than spend £300 a month renting a Vauxhall or a Nissan? Thats over £11k just to borrow somebody elses Vauxhall for 3 years

Thanks for the advice so far. Seems that neither is ultimately a very inspiring motor. I'll keep digging around.

Ironically the Hyundai is a little more expensive to acquire on the leasing model which she would prefer to use at the moment.

While I agree that leasing isn't always ideal, it offers some benefits in my circumstances (or rather the wife's). The base model Qashqai can be had for less than £200pm ex VAT and is a tax efficient way for her to drive a brand new motor. The Antara was something that was suggested as being a bit better specced and is closer to the £240pm mark.

Renting from Hertz is also a tax efficient way of driving a brand new Motor with the advantage that after a week you can give it back once you realise its crap.

Is she VAT registered? It isn't tax free if the car is available for private use, btw..

better to take a loan on your own terms and get a better offer as a cash buyer. at least you can look at a 1-2 year old which would be a much better option. if you are willing to take a 3 year lease @ £300, then the equivalent loan at say 7.0 interest (as a random rate selected from nationwide) is 10K.

with the cash at least your the owner, can get out (sell the car and) and therefore have more flexibility then you would with a lease.

Lots of hate for the qashqai. Ive driven one a while back and found it to be a great car. What not to like? or were you expecting it to be something its not? It looks pretty good (especially after 2010 refresh) and is crammed with kit and is different than the normal small family hatchback (astra/focus) which is what its competing with.

I'd take one over any of other crossovers tbh.

Therein is the problem. Crossovers are inherently crap.

The saying the Qashqai is the best of them is like saying gonorrhea is the nicest STD.

lol!

The thing is these crossovers compete with both MPV's (like the C-Max) and with family hatchbacks (like astras/focus) and i'd rather drive a crossover than either of those two types of car.

If I was looking at something like this, which I never would as I see them as absolutely pointless things but if I was to suddenly wake up and decided I wanted a pointless car then it would be a RAV-4 or CRV

Because it has wheels? :p

Nissan Quashqia is a horrendous car. So is the juke. I hate those sort of crossover/SUV type cars.

The Juke really is an ugly looking little wagon to put it nicely. Looks like a jacked up Micra that had its face glassed.

LOL so true.

My mate burnt the clutch out on his Qashqai towing my car 1.8 miles :P I don't know if they are oversized, underpowered or both...

All of them :p

Agreed, I will never understand why the lights sit on top of the bonnet. Certianly isn't for any function I can see and if its for style then **** me, the designers need sacking!
