My other half has always longed to stay in one of those "Room on stilts" over the sea and white sandy beaches, I have absolutely no idea where to start looking!!

Yep, Maldives is what you want. Not going to be cheap even at the lowest end.

One bit of advice I would give is to find something all inclusive in the Maldives. If you only have B&B then you can quickly see your costs go through the roof.

+1 for the Maldives my sister had one of the water villas for her honeymoon, the pictures were amazing.

We stayed in a water bungalow when we had our honeymoon in the maldives. Great experience although a little frightening at night when a storm came. You also get a man coming round everyday to clean your steps into the sea
