Work for a big retailer in the UK which has a Phones 4U built into. Been offered a very very good trade in on my iPhone 4 which means I can upgrade straight to the S2 for the same price per month with even more minutes.

How much better is the s2 im sorely tempted just for a nice new bit of tech.

Anyone done this exchange. Thoughts?

Apologies if this is asked a lot. Dont frequent these parts often.

Tom.

Had a mate go from a iP3Gs to the S2 and he's utterly sold. He's also a happy guy for not having to use iTunes or waste time converting videos to get it on the device. I'd do it in a flash.

How much have you spent on apps?
Would you actually use those minutes?
Does the sg2 actually offer anything you would use?

Changing phones was needed every year, but I know see it that smart phones are more than capable of doing everything, so an upgrade isn't needed automatically as new features aren't being added as fast.

In other words will you get anything out of that money you spend and how much loss and the re-buying in apps will it cost.
If there's a benefit you will use go for it, if not. What's the point.

sensible post right thur

swapping for the sheer sake of it i would not advise . surely in your position you can have a good play about with the sgs2/android ?

Guess I just want a new toy! Does the s2 offer much more than an iphone 4?

Hmm. It's a trade in value of £310 plus on top of that staff discount of £85.

35 quid a month 1200 mins / texts unlimited / net unlimited

More minutes are only good if you use them, so many people go I have x-number of minutes and go I have such a bargain. Then you look atone usage and it's like 200minutes a month and find out they could slash their bill by £10-20 and still not go over.

No new smartphone is going to offer anything substantial. It'll be slightly faster, maybe better camera. For most people doubt any new upgrade is needed or justifiable in rarity. Other than I want new tech syndrom, which is fair enough if you really want to fork out the money.

I'm upgrading from a 3GS to the S2. Partly for the speed but mainly to go from a 3.5 to 4.3 inch screen and just feel like a change (it's 15 months old). I don't have that many apps that I would actually want to replace. So it's an easy choice for me.

Also if you like tinkering and customising S2 would be great but you may miss the finely honed Apple IOS and regular software updates. Also the iPhone does look like a luxury phone, so it depends how important looks are. But the S2 is better on the inside than the iPhone.

Looks good if you need the mins, if not you can usually get the SGS2 free(ish) on a decent £25pm contract (300-600mins, 500mb-1GB data etc) + £40-£100 cashback from places like quidco.

...and don't forget WWDC is in June, so the 'iPhone shuffle' will begin soon after. Get in early to maximise resale value and you could always use the cash for an iP5 if you don't like the SGS2 (and whatever cash you can get for that) :)

The iPhone 4 is hardly luxury, it's just overpriced.

I'm glad I didn't keep mine. Expected a bigger upgrade over a 3GS, went to a Nexus S and can't believe I stayed locked into iOS for so long.

Hurray for no more horrible iTunes syncing.

Expected a bigger upgrade over a 3GS

sums it up to be fair , i dont think there has ever been a bigger difference between 2 phones . the 3gs you had was rubbish. the iphone4 is win

Android > iOS, massively

Galaxy S II > iPhone 4, massively

In your opinion :p

I wouldn't say massively or even at all for some people.

As for the OP, changing from an iP4 to a Galaxy S II is what I would consider a decent upgrade, you'll basically lose a better app store to gain an all round better phone.

What are the main things you use your phone for and I'll tell you if its worth it :)

I'd take an iPhone 4 over a Nexus S every single day of the week.

I've just gone from a 3GS to an SGSII.

Got to say I was a bit of an apple fan beforehand but I'm utterly sold on the SGSII. Yeah it take a bit of fiddling to get it looking how you want, but at least you get the choice. Its really quick at everything, and after a full days useage (which would have my Iphone 3GS @ 10% at bed) my SGSII had 47% battery life left!

Its also unfair to be comparing the 3GS to a Galaxy S II, I'm not sure why people are :p

Truth be told, its even unfair to compare it to an iPhone 4 but that is to be expected when there is nothing else.
