Hi forum,

I've been looking at some youtube vids and most of them suggest to even out the thermal paste across the surface of the cpu. The thing is that I mounted the intel cooler on the cpu once but then I removed it so that I could have the fan connector closer to the input of the motherboard.

I noticed that the thermal paste smudged on the cpu already but it didnt cover the surface fully. Should I take off the cooler again and then try to spread the thermal paste across the surface or should I just leave it as it is?

Its not the sort of thing to be taking on and off without re-applying the paste with new stuff.

This, ideally.

But, TBH if you stick the HS back on carefully (applying a bit of pressure to even out the gunk) - when you boot up for the first time go straight to the BIOS and go to the 'System Health Status' or similar and then monitor the CPU temps. If they are within tolerance live with it until you can replace the gunk - if it's necessary.

However, if the temps seem high (unlikely) just turn the system off and wait for your new tube of thermal paste to arrive.

Oh, and don't do this - if you want to get better temps just wipe the pre-applied stuff off and apply a better quality, and amount of TIM.
