Alright Chaps?

Got some Q's/Looking for some advice on a home cinema set-up from you.

I picked up a 40" LCD to go in my lounge today....

This will be the first time I've had a screen in my lounge - and am trying to keep it all minimal.

It'll be used with a HTPC (will be getting a blueray drive for it), and will be connecting to a Teac home cinema amp....

This will be used for DVD/dl watching, some iplayer, net surfing... that kinda thing.

Anyways... I will be wall mounting the TV - its going on a brick wall.

The wall is around 10" thick.... the other side is the cupboard under the stairs.

I've thought about passing all cables through the wall to the cupboard.

Then keeping the HTPC, Home cinema Amp etc there.... and cabling back through to the surround speakers.

Firstly... has anyone done anything like this? Any general advice/tips?

Secondly - can anyone give any advice on a bracket for a brick wall and the type of screws/bolts to use? Looking at around £40-£50ish?

It doesn't need tilt, rotate, etc... just stick the TV solidly on the wall.

Do I need to bolt right through the wall and fasten the other side, or is there a set bolt type and depth for this?

Then - Any advice on passing cabling through the wall?

Guessing the cabling hole is going to have to be HDMI head size at least?

And lastly.... TV height - will be minimum 15ft away from the screen... what sort of level do you wall mounting guys have yours?

Fashion says higher up but common sense says eye level?

Oh, and lastly... can anyone recommend any of those infra-red remote pass the signal to a different room devices so that I can control the amp from my sofa?

Any advice greatly appreciated guys! Sorry if that seems like a whole bunch of Questions!

Fashion?! lol. It's not fashion. It's just so many people getting it wrong. Ha ha ha

It's either the height dictated by the fireplace; they follow what they've seen at the pub; or they plan the TV install height when stood and then realise it's too high from a seated position. But by then of course it's too late.

Jaap74 is on the right track. Personally I start with 1/3rd, 2/3rd split which is our natural view of the world. 1/3rd ground, 2/3rds sky.

You would be best using an sds drill, 6.5-7mm bit, brown plugs and 2"10s. 4-6 screws, fixings in the brick not the mortar. Your probably going to want a 32mm sds bit to get through the wall, just make sure you drill from your face wall into the cupboard!! If you struggle getting a 32mm through, use something smaller and build up.

Thought so - neck ache inbound!

Cheers for the advice guys - going to be installing this weekend.

I don't suppose I could bump the

I've been measuring up and this will work out really well/look good without the ball-ache of channelling cables/re-plastering - just need the convenience of the remote and I'm laughing. :)

It's a bit more expensive but you can get an RF remote which will control TV/AMP/HTPC
look for the Logitech Harmony 900

Thanks.... Probably a tad more than I was looking for :-D

I have a teac allin1 for my amp that has learning abilities - it's pretty good. Rather than whack a few hundred on a similar remote that can do 'out of room', I was more just looking for 2 sensors, they can even be wired... For not a lot of £££... That I could use.
