I'd ask for the change it does sound like a more important role the way you want it named. This makes no difference in your current role but could be helpfull when moving on to your next job, an good job title will allow you to talk up your role and responsibilities when jumping up the food chain.

Yes, I would judge. But then I've worked in lots of IT / IS environments that has those sorts of titles for different levels of people.

Specialist is a techie, not a manager. I moved from that to be an Operational Support Manager.

Only if it is a small company. It is grading that you move from rather than title.

Serioulsy though, i go through a job title a year (or so it feels!) in the 6yrs i've been at my place i've been anything from Assitant Director to Solution Specialist, all doing pretty much the same job. Get your secretary to field all your calls informing people of your importance and brilliance and only get her to let 1 in 10 people through to speak to you. That way you'll seem really busy and important......
