****Official L.A Noire thread****

I hope this game gets better. Not played it long, but so far it's dull, the city feels lifeless, the driving is crap, and visually I don't think it's that impressive. I'm hoping that now I am a proper detective it gets a bit better!

Then you are mental. The driving is total crap! Too twitchy, unrealistic, and generally just rubbish. GTA IV driving mechanics were AWESOME! They were fun, more realistic, and made the game a whole lot better.

Got to rememeber, you're driving cars from the 50's. They probably drive like tanks. Also, try running over people and see what happens. People in the 50's have amazing reflexs and are pretty nimble too.

I might actually complete The Witcher 2 before getting this.

Mrs got mine from Gamestation this morning on her way to work, had some point and a gift card to use up so win.

Looking forward to some crime solving tonight. Got mine on the 360 have a PS3 slim too but will install to HDD so load time will be better and wasn't sure the PS3 Phat issues were only on that system.

So 360 ***

Got mine this morning from Best Buy, £29.99. Had loads on both consoles in stock.

Played the first case and it seems good, a nice relaxed pace game.

Frame rate in cut scenes is poor and the handling is twitchy as someone mentioned but neither have bothered me thus far.

Actually 360 ftl on this one. Disc swapping, slightly worse graphics. Worse frame rate.

I'm I just trolling now? :o

Yes you are :D tbh does'nt bother me got 3 360s in the house and only 1 PS3 in the living room so can play anywhere in the house on the 360 but would be much restricted on the PS3 like only when the kids are in bed or theres nowt on the TV the Mrs wants on so for me win :p

From what I've played I think it's really fantastic. Unusual type of game so if you're expecting anything at all like GTA then you may be disappointed. It's more like Mafia, with better graphics, scripts, characters and IMO a really unique type of gameplay. It's quite slow paced (so far) and some of the cases are pretty dark in their subjects/story - but certainly makes it feel realistic. It's also rather hard - certainly the interviewing.

Car handling is now where near what some are making out.

Sounds awsome, loved Mafia 2 (still got to complete) so if the mix is right which sounds as if it is then excellent!

Only 5 hours 5 mins of work left .. :(

Out of interest - for people who are having real slowdown issues on the 360 - have you installed the game to the hard drive? I have and I've had no real problems (odd bit of pop-up etc.)

Same here IceBus, all installed and apart from the first few seconds of the game being a bit jerky I've not had any major problems at all (like you say: bit of pop up here and there but generally very good).

We'll I'm still on Disc 1 (360) doing well having received the game yesterday.

Graphics are ok, not exactly impressive. However they have a more RDR feel to it than GTAIV. Possibly due to the bright daytime lighting, as IV had various tones of lighting as as the day progressed.

Driving is clumsy and very loose, nothing like IV. As said, cars of that generation were a pain to drive anyway but these cars are very slippery and over sensitive from the start. NPC cars occasionally seem to be fuelled by nitrous oxide if you try and rush a red light.

Gameplay is good, hard to judge at this stage. Shoot outs are classic 'auto aim' affairs. Weapons feel rather poor in use, aside from the tommy gun. They just lack that punchy sound. Also the baddies keep shooting MY HAT OFF.

Facial expressions are stunning, and I already recognise the actor playing the coroner. The whole questioning of suspects is cool, but can be finicky as most will find out early on in when questioning one particular chap only to have your boss repeatedly shout at you. You could have all the right answers to present to a suspect and still mess up.
