Looking at an RS4

Itching to drive the RS tomorrow. So confused by not driving either.

A few things to look out for on your test drive:

I've had mine 20 months and still delighted with it; the only problems I've had are a faulty CV boot and solenoid.

As Housey said, on British roads with British weather it's such an accomplished car, it's very easy to drive very fast in dry or wet weather.

It likes to be revved, so get it warmed up and give it a good thrashing if you want to see the best of it performance wise.

Also because the power is so linear, it might not seem your travelling that fast until you look at the speedo and see your well into triple figures.

Finally get them windows down with the sport button on so you can hear the V8 in all it's glory, with the windows up your missing half the enjoyment!

Test drove the RS4 and S5 today.

I was really surprised with the RS4. The sound......the M3 has got nothing on the sound of the RS4 with the sport button is down. The driving position is spot on, the short shift gearbox is smooth and accurate, the power delivery is very linear but just keeps pulling all the way to 8k rpm. All in all I loved it. I really flung it round some corners and roundabouts and it kept impressing me.

Im still not sold on the interior or the exterior looks compared to the M3 or S5. Maybe if I got rid of all the chrome then maybe.

After driving the M3 and RS4 the S5 was a real let down. My E46 M3 is quicker and the sound of the V8 is so muted that theres no point in having one under the bonnet.

Plus this model had nearly every option ticked except for cruise so Ive discounted the S5 altogether now.

Im going to view an M3 tomorrow priced at 25k. 2 previous owners, decent options including EDC, 58k miles, silverstone II paintwork with black nappa interior new pads and discs. Not sure on when it was last serviced but will be going over it thoroughly tomorrow and if Im happy with it I will put a deposit on it as I think overall the M3 combines the perfomance and looks that Im after.
