Take a small sample to a few local scrap metal merchants and see what they say.

As silver valuable as gold, you can get really good money for it, try to go to shops where they sell silver and ask them how you can sell it.

most scrap metal merchants never deal with anything more valuable than copper thieved from BT Exchanges

I should be very careful who you tell, especially when talking to scrappies. There are some people who'd do some nasty stuff to get their hands on £30k.
