Hey guys,

I'm getting a 2600k at the end of the month and I need some decent cooling for it :D

I'll be overclocking yes, but I won't be going mad - I need to stay with air for the time being. I'm upgrading from a tuniq tower which has been great for the last few years at keeping my 3.8ghz 8400 nice and cool... so something similar on the 2600k would be great? If you could use your own fans too with it, that would be fantastic!

Thanks.

As above - although i would favour the Silver Arrow as you're already used to a monstruous chunk of metal on your CPU already.

silver arrow is the best just make sure when you get ram if you haven't already that it is low profile

D-14 lapped best cooler ive had.

Yep, no problems the XMS3 is low profile and will fit under most HS - and even the G.Skill will fit under the D-14.

Additional: I know you said you needed to stay with air but was that excluding all-in-one water cooling?

The reason i ask is that you can get the H50 for £39 on promo at OcUK this week - and it's a great bang for buck option.

Ha, I'm just thinking of simplicity ;)

In the past I've set up several water-cooling rigs for friends and it's taken a good few hours... I'm taking a week of week to coincide with my new setup and I want to spend as little time as possible putting it all together so I can spend as much time as possible enjoying it :p

The h50 looks tempting though?

Hey the h50 isn't bang for buck at all, that clearly belongs to something like the CM hyper 212+ for £15 if you look around. The h50 isn't as good as the other coolers in that price range.

Eh?

The OP is upgrading form a quality tuniq tower and the thread is comparing a D-14s, a prolimatech super mega, and silver arrows - all £50+ coolers.

I suggested the H50 at £39 as 'relative' bang-for-buck in comparison to the coolers already mentioned in the thread (keeping in mind he's upgrading form a quality tuniq tower.)

Where in this thread were any budget coolers mentioned?

Maybe others have only suggested high end coolers but the op has just requested a cooler for a 2600k. The h50 is neither high end or bang for buck anyway you look at it.

True but his opening post stated that he was using a high end cooler already - hence the theme of the coolers mentioned.

The 212 is great value I’ve extolled is virtues in other posts – link.

And I mentioned the silver arrow in post #3 as it's a fantastic cooler - and very quiet – plus seemed to fit the quality that the OP was after.

I mentioned the H50 as (i believe) at £39 its 'comparatively' good value compared to a £56 cooler. But we’ll agree to disagree on that one…

Sorry if you took offense to that but I'm just looking at it from a performance angle. Afaik the h50 isn't good for the money. It costs too much for mediocre performance at that price range.

Hey, no offence taken - i actually like the banter involved in differing opinions – it’s always interesting to read another perspective.

Personal usage/views will always be contradictory, to a degree, but all are valid (well almost all - i exclude the 'magpies' who just vote yes for all things shiney and expensive.)
