How much more power will a i5 pull over a c2d ?

I thought that they were more power efficient due to the better speedstep etc, and the smaller manufacturing process etc, and lower voltage requirements, but i could be wrong??

The CPU does have 2 extra cores and I forgot the integrated gpu.

Are you are after a energy efficient pc?

Edit: looking at a Bit Tech review the 2500k overclocked to 4.9ghz pulled 221w from the wall at full load, not sure on what actual components were in the system.

Was this CPU only or the entire PC system ?

Will you be overclocking the CPU?

Your psu should be fine but I would not run Furmark and Prime together though  :p

the thing is...Sandy Bridge pulls pretty much nothing when idling, which is where your PC is 95% of the time. In fact it probably pulls less power than a C2D

turns out the PSU is not enjoying life now LOL playing IL2 (that game CANES systems) and well my pc turned into a jet engine, opened the side to find out what fan was going nuts as it was quite loud and well it was the psu fan and the heat coming out was very very warm indeed. the machine has not shutdown but i think the combo of my hardware is pushing my psu hard.

Why spend so much on new hardware and not replace a part which could easily kill all your new stuff?

If your going to buy another psu, DON'T buy a generic model, most can't supply constant stable output on the 12v rails.

Get a branded on, Corsair, OCZ, Be Quiet, etc, buying a quailty psu can save you a lot of grief, it's cheaper to buy a new quailty psu, than replacing a motherboard, etc, killed by a cheap psu.

I had no intention of buying a cheap PSU the psu i have now was not cheap when i bought it 5 years ago, i just did not think the SB would draw that much more than my C2D but i was wrong. I am going to buy This PSU as its got plenty of headroom for next gen cards when they come out and i replace my 480 + i like corsair stuff
