Manchester college needed for student of English

Hello,

My girlfriend's sister (from Spain, Gran Canaria) wants to head over to England for a while and we've settled on Manchester as best choice after London; we also considered Leeds and Glasgow. Initially, she wants to spend two terms in a college improving her level of English and I wondered if anyone here could recommend somewhere.

I don't know much about Manchester really but the college should be in a good area close to the city centre. Also advice on the student areas to live would be great. Any advice at all on Manchester in fact.

I went to manc college. It now covers about 80% of colleges in manc. It wasn't the best idea to merge the two biggest ones years ago.

Don't go anywhere NEAR openshaw/ashton campus.

There's a few central campus's. I'd look at going Trafford college tbh.
 
With her being from Spain she will be regarded as a Home Student, so she doesn't need to worry about ridiculously high course fees (as for International Students). How old is she btw? The Manchester College as recommended above, run ESOL courses (English for Speakers of Other Languages) which should be running from September. They are very popular though so I would advise her to put an online application in as soon as possible. :)
 
I'm at The Manchester College now, its not too bad and they definitely do ESOL courses and similar. Bury college is a good shout but there isn't much point when you can go to college in Manchester City Centre and not have to spend money travelling to Bury.

The Manchester College is also a lot more multicultural too which can be seen as either a plus or minus depending on what they are looking for.

Both Openshaw and 'One Central Park' are horrific.

2 years at Openshaw here, fortunately my second year was down a bit further on Asthon Old-Road because I decided to do a year of mechanics. The campus was quite nice inside, but good god it was an awful atmosphere.

Have you been to the one on New-Quay street? I am looking to do night-school there. Edit: The Openshaw campus is paradise in comparison to Tameside College.
 
Manchester college looks great. Thanks for the advice guys! I'll ask Sari if she minds me posting photos of her online.
 
Hello again. Someone on facebook suggested Manchester International College in Withington. It might be good as it offers short courses of three months including one beginning in November but at around £1200 for three months it costs the same as the other colleges for a year. That would be ok if it's an intensive course for example. Does anyone know about this place?

I'm at St John's campus now, its small and in a decent location plus most people are over 21 so the general attitude is better. I also went to Sheena Simon campus right in the heart of the city when I first left school and that was good too.

Although I will agree that Openshaw and OCP are **** and I would definitely choose Bury college over those two.
