I know it has went up but blooming hell its expensive!
when I was 18 I insured a 306 gti6 167bhp car for about £1300!
now im nearly 25 and its costing me £1200 for a focus 1.8 diesel 2001!
what is going on?
I have no claims... but then again ive never had any and I have 3 points for on the phone..

surely to god I can get it cheaper.. any ideas? ?

£1200 for a 1.8 diesel focus at 25 years old?

You must have the worst post code in the world, that's awful :/

If you don't have any no claims bonus (not sure if you meant no no claims or you've not got any claims - in which case, how much NCB do you have?), that implies you've either not been driving or you've been insured as a named driver on someone elses policy - neither will help your cause. Nor will having points for getting caught driving whilst on the phone.

I think your issue is less with expensive insurance in general and more to do with a poor set of circumstances.

Yeah its crazy! my post code is fine.. I live in a very good quiet area.
I just dont know what to do, ive been with admiral for a while and the best they are doing it is £95 a month.. i dont know what that works out a year but its just crazy

You can't live in that great an area as I have never paid that for my 530i which I have had since 22 and am renewing for 390.

You're going to need to post up more detail if you want anyone to actually help you get it cheaper though.

What is the postcode? (first half is enough) How much NCB do you have? Have you been on someone elses insurance for the last 5 years? etc. etc.

There will be something causing it to be that high.

Must be your postcode, Im in Plymouth too and I'm renewing for £460 on a 2001 Megane!

ca1 is post code
I have no ncb... but with direct line I did have 2 years as a named driver Ive had insurance in my own name for about a year now but before I used to just drive my dads cars.

No NCB is hitting you hard. Working in sales won't help.

CA1 is not bad, B rating which is fairly low risk.

Last year I paid £450 TPFT for my Lexus, £425 comprehensive for my MR2

This year> £345 comprehensive for the lexus, £329 comprehensive for the MR2

yeah think best I can do is stay with admiral who im with now and accept it and build up some ncb!
how comes sales dont help ? im a wholesale manager but i just put sales representitive can that make a difference ?

Ive always changed insurance companies and moved about to get the best deal but never built up ncb really... i didnt have my own car till a few years back I was just driving a private owned vehicle which was my dads

Play around with job titles and see what different quotes you can get. Choose the cheapest one that isn't an outright lie.

Which doesn't affect your NCB at all as long as you complete the yearly term.

If you've been a named driver and not claimed, try and get a policy in your name with the same insurance company, seeing if they'll take your named driver status with them as being worth something.

Im going to do this after ending up basically fronting. It doesn't pay because Ive been driving two years and would have had 2 years no claims.

Silly me

"why is car insurance so expensive?" you ask?

The answer is simple, because the insurance companies seem to love ripping of us off.
